🏈 NOW TAKING THE FIELD: PHILIA! 🏈

Every team needs a veteran who knows exactly what matters: enjoying the little moments, giving her people plenty of love and saving enough energy for a surprise zoomie or two. That is Philia. ❤️

At 8 years old and 60 pounds, Philia may be one of the older players in our starting lineup, but do not count this beautiful lady out! She still gets the cutest little bursts of energy in the yard before returning to what she does best: cuddling as close to her people as possible. 🥹

Philia absolutely loves people and has so much affection left to give. She is not asking for endless practices or a jam-packed schedule. She wants a comfortable place to rest, a yard for the occasional victory lap and a family who will appreciate all the love an older dog brings to the team.

Philia has not completed a full playgroup assessment yet, so a meet and greet will be required with any potential canine teammate.

This sweet veteran has already mastered the most important play of all: making everyone around her feel loved. Now she deserves to spend her golden years as the MVP of someone’s home. 💛

🐾 Philia, 8 years old and 60 pounds
🏈 Play style: Zoomies, then cuddles
🎯 Best skill: Postgame snuggles
👕 Team role: Veteran captain
🏡 Ideal team: A loving home ready to spoil an older lady
🧡 Adoption fee: $25

Our Find Your MVP adoption event runs September 11–26. Come meet Philia and give this precious veteran the home-field advantage she deserves!

🤎 MOTO’S GLOW-UP IS COMPLETE! 🤎

Meet Moto, a handsome 2-year-old brown tabby who has come a long way since arriving at the shelter. He came to us a little underweight and in need of some TLC, but with plenty of care and attention, this boy has absolutely glowed up! He’s now healthy, happy and looking very handsome.

Moto can be a little nervous and skittish in new surroundings, so he needs some time to feel comfortable, build his confidence and get to know you. But once he feels safe and knows you, his sweet side comes shining through—and he’s a total lovebug! He has made some wonderful friends with our volunteers and, as you can see, he’s more than happy to enjoy some kisses and cuddles from people he trusts.

Moto does okay with other cats, but a slow, proper introduction is very important. Giving him time to feel safe, become familiar with a new cat’s scent and gradually get used to their behavior will help set everyone up for success. Our adoption specialists are happy to provide guidance and tips for making introductions the right way.

Moto has already come so far. Now he just needs someone willing to give him the time and patience to show them what a loving boy he can be. 🤎

Our Blanket Supply is Running LOW!

We could use a little help keeping our animals cozy! Our blanket supply is starting to run low, and we’d greatly appreciate donations of new or gently used blankets for the cats and dogs in our care.

Blankets get a lot of use around the shelter, so having extras on hand makes a huge difference. If you have some sitting in a closet that you no longer need, our animals would be happy to put them to good use!

Donations can be dropped off at Saginaw County Animal Care & Control during our regular business hours.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone comfortable while they wait for their next chapter!

🏈 NEXT UP IN OUR STARTING LINEUP: KARLA! 🏈

Karla did not come here to sit on the sidelines. This energetic 2-year-old is ready to get moving and find an adventurous person who can keep up with her! 🐾

Her scouting report describes her as sweet, friendly, independent and full of life. Karla enjoys exploring, getting outside and doing her own thing, making her a great match for someone looking for an active companion without a stage-five clinger. Once she gets into the yard, her sweet and easygoing side comes right out. ❤️

Every star player deserves the chance to shine, and Karla shines brightest as the only pet. She is looking for a home without other dogs or cats, where she can have the field and her person’s heart all to herself.

If your home team needs an energetic, loyal and adventurous solo superstar, Karla may be your perfect first-round pick!

🐾 Karla
🏈 Play style: Full speed ahead
🎯 Best skill: Going the distance
👕 Team role: Solo superstar
🏡 Ideal team: An active home with no other pets
🧡 Adoption fee: $25

🏈 NOW TAKING THE FIELD: FIGARO! 🏈

Every great team needs a quarterback everyone can count on, and around here, that’s Figaro. ❤️

Figaro is one of those dogs who seems to have a fan club everywhere he goes. Staff and volunteers love him, other dogs feel comfortable meeting him, and he has earned the trusted role of greeter dog in playgroup. He gets along with playful teammates, but he is just as happy hanging out in the yard and calmly taking it all in.

This sweet, potty-trained boy is easy to handle, walks nicely on leash, knows basic commands and takes treats gently. He is food motivated, eager to please and always excited when it is finally his turn to head outside. He even does well in the car and handled bath time like a champ!

Figaro bonds deeply with his people and has experienced separation anxiety in a home. His previous foster saw major improvement with consistency, medication, positive reinforcement and having someone around more often. He will need a family willing to help him settle in and remind him that this time, his people are coming back.

Give this quarterback a durable chew toy, a little patience and a home team of his own, and he will give you his whole heart in return. 🥹

🐾 Figaro
🏈 Play style: Cool and collected
🎯 Best skill: Making friends
👕 Team role: Star quarterback
🏡 Ideal team: A patient family ready for a loyal companion
🧡 Adoption fee: $25

🐾 WE HAVE KITTENS… AND WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🐾

We’ve recently taken in around 25 kittens of various ages, and while they aren’t quite old enough for adoption yet, they still need plenty of care, attention and love to help them grow into healthy, happy cats.

We have bottle babies, kittens who are eating gruel, and little ones just beginning to learn about kitten food. That means we have some very important needs right now!

FOSTERS NEEDED!

We are especially looking for fosters willing to take on bottle babies. Never cared for a bottle baby before? That’s okay! We can teach you how to do it. You don’t have to be an experienced foster to make a difference.

We can also use fosters for kittens who are off the bottle and eating gruel—a mixture of milk replacer and wet food—but are still too young for adoption.

Fosters are provided with all the supplies needed to care for their kittens. You provide the time, care and love, and we provide the supplies and support!

WE COULD ALSO USE DONATIONS OF:

• Wet kitten food
• KMR / kitten milk replacer
• Kitten bottles and ni***es

Every foster home gives a kitten a chance to grow stronger in a safe, loving environment. Every can of food and bottle helps us provide the care these little ones need.

Thank you for helping us help them. ❤️🐾

❤️ Louie, Britney, Maggie & Simon : Hearts Learning to Trust Again ❤️

Some cats walk into the shelter ready to make friends. Others need time to learn that people can be trusted.

This crew are learning. And we couldn't be more proud of them.
Louie is 8, Maggie is 9.5, and Simon is 9.5. All are long-haired gray and white kitties. Britney is a 7-year-old brown tabby girl. These cats have had a hard life. They came from a home where they didn't receive much one-on-one attention and lived alongside many other animals. They never had the opportunity to really learn what it felt like to have someone focus on them.

When they arrived at the shelter, they were terrified and completely shut down. For two months, we've been patiently working with them, trying to show them that people can be gentle, kind and safe.

And recently... something changed. ❤️

They are finally opening up to us and we've found squeezy treats, soft voices and gentle pets are the way to their hearts.

Once Louie and Britney come out for their treats and begin to warm up, they're discovering that they actually LIKE attention and affection! They are learning to relax. They're learning to trust. And they're beginning to show us the sweet cats hiding underneath all that fear. Maggie and Simon aren't ready to be petted yet, but are coming around on accepting treats.

For these shy cats, that is a HUGE accomplishment. We are so proud of them. We know they're ready for the next step—a home of their own.

They need families who understands that trust doesn't happen overnight. They'll need someone willing to go slowly, let them set the pace, celebrate the little victories and give them the time they need to become comfortable and confident.

But we truly believe that once they feel safe, these cats will blossom. And the bond you build with a cat who once didn't trust the world can be incredibly special.

Louie, Britney, Maggie & Simon are not the only cats from this particular situation. We're still working with several more who are also looking for homes. They, too, need patient people willing to give them a chance.

If you're looking for a project cat—a cat you can work with, earn the trust of, and watch transform before your eyes—please consider one of these special cats.

It may take time.
It may take patience.
But when they finally choose you and realize they are safe...you may have a best friend for life. ❤️🐾

🥷 Ninja has mastered the art of sneaking up on you… and stealing your heart. 💜

Although, if we’re being accurate, there isn’t much “ninja” about this guy once he decides he likes you.

Ninja is a 2-year-old, 57-pound gentle soul who can be a little timid when you first meet him. He may approach you low and cautiously while he figures out whether you’re safe, but once he does? The disguise is blown. This sweet boy LOVES attention. 🥹

He’s the kind of dog who seems to just need a little reassurance that the world isn’t such a scary place.

Ninja keeps a clean kennel, has a gentle play style and has spent time in the yard with other dogs. He was unsure at first during playgroup, but given a little time, he loosened up and accepted greetings. Just like with people, Ninja seems to do best when he’s allowed to take things at his own pace.

He’s still working on his confidence and basic manners, but there’s something incredibly endearing about watching a nervous dog realize he can trust you. ❤️

And can we PLEASE discuss the face? The eyes. The little tongue. The serious stare while sitting like the most polite gentleman. Absolutely zero stealth happening here, sir. We see you. 😂🥷

Ninja doesn’t need a life full of action and adventure. He needs patience, kindness and someone who will help that sweet little personality come out of hiding.

💜 Maybe Ninja’s greatest disappearing act could be making his shelter days disappear for good.

Come meet Ninja today!!
