It's been a busy morning already for Grand Lake Fire Department.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., we were dispatched to a reported possible structure fire in Solway Township. Upon arrival, crews determined that no structures were involved; however, a wildland fire was actively burning in the area. While the fire was kept to under two acres in size, the location presented several challenges for responding personnel.

We would like to thank our mutual aid partners who responded to assist:
• Solway Volunteer Fire Department
• Hermantown Fire Department
• Canosia Volunteer Fire Dept
• Proctor Fire / Rescue
• Minnesota Department of Natural Resources

Shortly after returning to service, Grand Lake Fire was requested to assist Fredenberg Fire Department with establishing a helicopter landing zone for a medical emergency.

Responding agencies included:
• Fredenberg Volunteer Fire Department
• Gnesen Volunteer Fire Department
• Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service
• Life Link III

Both incidents occurred in neighboring townships, highlighting the importance of mutual aid agreements and strong regional partnerships. We are proud to assist our neighboring departments when they need help, just as they are always ready to assist us when called upon.

This morning serves as a great reminder of why we work hard to build and maintain strong relationships with the agencies around us. Working together allows us to provide the highest level of service to our communities when emergencies occur.

Thank you to all of the responders who helped make both incidents successful and safe operations.

Sorry for the delay in posting — but we wanted to share highlights from some amazing community outreach and training!

On May 16th, Grand Lake Fire hosted a community CPR event. Attendees learned how to provide high-quality CPR for both adults and infants, as well as how to properly operate an AED.

We would like to thank the community members who took time out of their weekend to attend this important training. Your willingness to learn these lifesaving skills helps make our community safer and stronger.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Scott Ankley at CertServe for working with us to make this day possible. We greatly appreciate your support, instruction, and assistance in helping educate our community!

🚩 Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 9 PM this evening.

Yesterday alone, St. Louis County experienced 17 grass/wildfires. Some were caused by trees on power lines, but others were completely preventable — people burning large amounts of cardboard, debris in burn barrels, and other outdoor burning activities.

People… PLEASE listen to the forecast and fire service experts. Just refrain from burning right now. We will have plenty of time this summer to burn brush piles safely. The few dollars you might save by burning today are far less than the fines, suppression costs, and damage that can result from a wildfire.

Rain is on the way. Just wait it out. Stay inside tonight, spend time with the family, and watch a movie instead.

Many area fire departments are currently assisting in the Two Harbors area, and departments across the region are running low on personnel due to the high fire activity. One careless decision can quickly pull resources away from someone else’s emergency.

Please do your part to help keep our communities and firefighters safe. 🔥

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING TODAY 🚩

Red flag conditions are once again in place across our area today. Fire danger remains VERY HIGH locally, with much of Minnesota now in the EXTREME category.

🔥 No open burning is allowed outside of a campfire. If you choose to have a campfire, make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving it unattended.

💨 Strong southerly winds combined with very low relative humidity will create dangerous fire behavior conditions. Historically, these south wind events are when Minnesota sees some of its largest and fastest moving wildfires.

👀 Please do your part: • Use extreme caution with anything that could spark a fire
• Properly dispose of smoking materials
• Avoid parking on dry grass
• Report any fire immediately

With the low RH and high winds, the rate of spread on any wildfire today could become significant in a very short amount of time.

Stay safe out there.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR OUR AREA

Critical fire weather conditions are expected Friday from Noon to 9 PM. With strong winds, low humidity, and dry fuels, any fire can spread rapidly and become dangerous in a very short amount of time.

🔥 Wildfire danger remains HIGH across the region.

🔥 Variance permits only for open burning.

Please use caution with anything that could start a wildfire:
• Campfires
• Equipment that creates sparks
• Recreational vehicles or trailers with dragging chains

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help keep our communities and firefighters safe.

Stay safe out there.

🎣 Happy Minnesota Fishing Opener!

Please be safe on the water today. There has already been a capsized vessel reported on Island Lake this morning.

🔥 Wildfire danger remains HIGH across our area. The Minnesota DNR is currently only allowing agency-approved burning permits.

Yesterday was extremely busy with numerous wildfires reported throughout the region. Please use extreme caution with any outdoor activities that could ignite a wildfire, including campfires, burning debris, trailers dragging chains, equipment use, and discarded smoking materials.

Stay alert, stay prepared, and have a safe weekend enjoying the outdoors.

🔥 It’s turning into a spicy day out there with wildfire conditions 🔥

Grand Lake Fire Department is asking everyone to use extreme caution with any outdoor activities that could spark a fire. Dry conditions and wind can cause fires to spread rapidly.

🚫 No bonfires are allowed without a valid Variance Permit issued by a MN DNR Forestry Office.

Please do your part to help keep our community and natural resources safe. Stay alert, stay responsible, and report any signs of fire immediately.

Another Red Flag Warning has been issued today for parts of Minnesota just west of our district.

Yesterday was extremely busy for fire departments across the state, with several new large wildfires reported. Grand Lake Fire Department responded to two separate wildfires, highlighting just how quickly conditions can change.

We ask everyone to use extreme caution with any outdoor activities. Dry conditions, low humidity, and wind can cause fires to spread rapidly.

Please do your part to help prevent wildfires and keep our communities safe.

Near-critical fire weather conditions are expected across northeast Minnesota today, Tuesday, April 21.

With temperatures increasing into the 60s and relative humidity decreasing as low as 15–20%, any fire that starts could spread rapidly. The most dangerous conditions are expected between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

We urge everyone to use extreme caution with any outdoor activity that could create a spark. This includes burning, equipment use, and anything that could unintentionally ignite dry vegetation. Under these conditions, wildfires can start easily and move quickly.

Please stay alert and do your part to help prevent wildfires. Alborn Fire and Rescue, Culver Volunteer fire department, Industrial Fire Department and Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Minnesota were all paged this morning due to a vehicle fire that started a field on fire.
