Please note that the First Ward Community Center Afterschool Program will be CLOSED from May 18 through May 21 due to facility renovations.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to create an even better space for our students and families! 💙

On Friday, April 24, six of our H.I.R.E. students had the opportunity to spend part of their evening at Saginaw Valley State University for a guided campus tour.

During their visit, students explored dorm rooms, toured academic buildings, and connected with both faculty and current students. The experience offered valuable insight into what college life looks like right here in Michigan.

Opportunities like this help open doors and introduce new perspectives as our students begin thinking about their futures beyond high school. 🎓

On Thursday, April 16, HIRE students had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Bryon Chamberlain, an arthroscopic surgeon, who delivered an impactful presentation on the hazards of risky behavior. Students learned how important it is to think carefully about their choices and the long-term effects of decision-making. Thank you, Dr. Chamberlain, for sharing your expertise and inspiring our students to make thoughtful, informed decisions! 👏

On Monday, April 13, L.A.C.E.R. students had a fantastic time at the Hoyt Library diving into hands-on STEM projects! 🧪✨ Students created fun, interactive items they were able to take home and continue exploring. It was a great day of learning, creativity, and discovery—way to go, everyone! 👏
