Sexual orientation is NOT consent.

During Pride Month (and every month, really), it’s important to challenge harmful myths and misconceptions about the LGBTQIA+ community. Including the false and damaging belief that someone’s identity, expression, or orientation implies consent.

BECAUSE IT DOESN’T.

Consent is clear, mutual, and ongoing. It is never assumed based on who someone is, how they identify, or who they love.

These conversations matter. They help break down stigma, support survivors, and create safer, more respectful communities for everyone.

We like to keep things professional around here… mostly. 😄

As Jill wraps up her final days as CEO, we wanted to do something special to send her off with a little extra joy (and maybe a few laughs, too). 💙

So naturally… we drank out of anything but cups.
At yesterday’s full staff meeting, watering cans, coffee pots, an empty hand sanitizer bottle (and yes, even a hollowed-out bell pepper) all made an appearance. It took Jill a while to catch on (despite the giggles), but when she did, it was exactly the kind of moment we were hoping for.

Moments like these remind us that even in the important work we do, there’s always room for laughter, connection, and a little harmless fun.

Because at Child & Family Services, building better lives starts with showing up as our full selves; joy, quirks, and all. 💙

After more than 40 years in social work (and five years of heartfelt leadership as President & CEO!) our very own Jill Hogenson will be retiring on July 10th.

Jill’s impact on Child & Family Services has been nothing short of transformational. From strengthening programs and expanding partnerships to fostering a workplace culture rooted in compassion, flexibility, and support, her leadership has helped shape who we are today. She has been a champion for both our clients and our team; always leading with kindness, encouragement, and an unwavering belief in the people around her.

What many may not know is that Jill’s story with our agency began long before she stepped into the role of CEO. Early in her career, she spent time here as a young social worker before continuing her path in the court system. Years later, she found her way back; bringing with her the experience, perspective, and leadership that would help shape who we are today.

Reflecting on her time as CEO, Jill shared:
“I never imagined my path would lead me here, but it has been one of the greatest honors of my career. The strength of this organization has always been its people, and I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by the very best. I believe my role was to help build a strong, supportive team and prepare the way for what comes next. I couldn’t be more confident in the future, and I will always cherish the people, the purpose, and the relationships built along the way.”

As Jill prepares for a well-earned retirement filled with rest, family, and new adventures, we extend our deepest gratitude for her leadership, her heart, and the lasting impact she leaves behind.

We’re also pleased to share that Adrianne (Annie) Coker, LMSW, will step into the role of CEO on July 10. A dedicated leader with more than 20 years at our agency, Annie will continue building on the strong foundation Jill helped establish.

This month’s Workplace Wellness Tip is your reminder to step outside and enjoy a little fresh air. ☀️🌿

With longer days and warmer weather, June is the perfect time to take advantage of what’s right outside your door. Even a few minutes outdoors can help boost your mood, sharpen your focus, and give you that mid-day reset we all need from time to time.

You don’t have to block off your calendar to make it happen. Take a quick lap around the building, bring your lunch outside, or sneak in a few minutes of sunshine between meetings. Fresh air might just be the easiest way to hit “refresh” on your day.

We’ll be installing a new phone system tomorrow (Wednesday, June 10th) at 10am. During this time, we may experience a brief disruption in our phone services.

We anticipate this interruption lasting just a few minutes, with services fully restored by 10:30am.

Big feelings can be hard to navigate, especially for kids.

Whether it’s anxiety, big life changes, behavior concerns, or just needing a safe space to talk, therapy can help children better understand their emotions and build the tools they need to thrive.

As a parent or caregiver, we don’t always have all the answers – and we’re not expected to. But that’s where we can help.

Right now, we have increased availability for child therapy services, including evening appointments, and are welcoming new clients ages 5 and up.

We currently accept SEVERAL major insurances, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, ASR, and HAP.
