This week, we recognize and celebrate EMS Week, honoring the dedicated EMS professionals who serve our community every day.

The men and women of Bourne Fire/Rescue respond to thousands of calls each year, providing compassionate care, professionalism, and critical emergency medical services to our residents and visitors. Whether it is a medical emergency, accident, or public assistance call, our personnel are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ready to help when people need it most.

We are continually reminded of the impact our personnel have on this community through the many emails, letters, and cards of appreciation we receive from members of the public. Those messages reflect the professionalism, compassion, and care our crews provide every day.

To all of our EMS providers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs — thank you for your hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to this profession and to the community we proudly serve. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.

Happy EMS Week from Bourne Fire/Rescue.

Over two separate days, we had the opportunity to partner with Bourne Police Department to conduct two mock motor vehicle crash demonstrations for the senior classes at our local high schools.

While these demonstrations focus on a difficult and somber topic, they provide an important opportunity to reinforce the very real dangers and consequences of distracted driving.

We are grateful for the collaboration between our public safety and educational partners in helping deliver this message to our students before prom season and graduation activities begin. Through teamwork, education, and awareness, we hope to encourage safe decision-making and prevent tragedies before they happen.

We want to thank everyone who participated and helped make these events possible, including Boston MedFlight, Bourne High School, and Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School.

Included is a photo of Firefighters Cody and Kelly posing with the Boston MedFlight helicopter.

Today, Bourne Fire/Rescue was proud to take part in High-Five Friday at Bourne Public Schools! 🙌

Alongside our public safety partners from the Bourne Police Department, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, and Massachusetts State Police, we welcomed students with smiles, high-fives, and plenty of positive energy to start their day.

Events like this are a great reminder of the strong connection between our first responders and the community we serve. Building these relationships—especially with our youngest residents—helps foster trust, confidence, and a sense of teamwork across Bourne.

Thank you to Bourne Public Schools for having us—we always enjoy the opportunity to show up for our community in ways that go beyond emergency response!

This week, Bourne Fire/Rescue would like to recognize the incredible professionals behind the scenes who make our work possible every single day.

To the dispatchers at Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department and Bourne Police Department — thank you.

Your calm voices in chaotic moments, your quick thinking, and your unwavering dedication ensure that our crews get the right information at the right time. You are the critical link between the public and first responders, and your work often goes unseen, but never unappreciated.

We truly could not do our job without you.

From all of us at Bourne Fire/Rescue, thank you for your professionalism, your partnership, and your commitment to keeping our community safe.

We are pleased to announce that Bourne Fire/Rescue has been awarded nearly $17,000 through the Massachusetts FY26 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.

These funds will support the replacement of 1,000 feet of supply fire hose and a positive pressure ventilation fan that are currently out of service. Additionally, remaining funds will be used toward the replacement of the thermal imaging camera assigned to the Shift Commander vehicle. While the current camera remains operational, it is approaching the end of its service life after nearly 15 years of use, and replacement parts are no longer available.

We appreciate the continued support of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Governor Maura Healey for their commitment to firefighter safety and the Bourne community.

⏰ Don’t forget to “Jump” forward tonight! ⏰

Daylight Saving Time begins tonight, so before you head to bed, make sure to set your clocks one hour ahead.

It’s also the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Working alarms save lives by giving you and your family the early warning you need in an emergency.

Take a minute tonight to:
✅ Change the batteries in all smoke alarms
✅ Check your carbon monoxide alarms
✅ Test each alarm to make sure it’s working

A small step that can make a big difference in keeping your family safe.

Stay safe, Bourne!
