🐻🐊🐬 Celebrate National Wildlife Day by helping protect the places our local wildlife call home!

Every yard and community space can make a difference. Enhance Florida’s natural environment by choosing native and Florida-Friendly plants that provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies, pollinators, and other wildlife—while conserving water and supporting a healthier ecosystem.

Remember, we share this community with wildlife. Whether you see a raccoon, opossum, gopher tortoise, alligator, manatee, or one of Florida’s many native birds, admire them from a safe distance, respect their space, and never feed or disturb them. A little awareness helps keep both people and animals safe. Together, we can help Florida’s wild neighbors thrive!

☕🪑 Does your downtown business have café tables in the right-of-way? Don't forget to file your permit!

The City of Safety Harbor allows café tables on sidewalks within the public right-of-way for eligible businesses located within the Community Redevelopment District (CRD). Before placing tables, chairs, umbrellas, or other outdoor seating items in the right-of-way, a Café Table Right-of-Way Use Permit is required.

The permit process helps ensure outdoor dining areas remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone, including maintaining clear pedestrian pathways. Permits are issued annually and require proof of insurance.

If you're considering outdoor seating for your downtown business or already have café tables in the right-of-way, please contact the City's Community Development Department to obtain permit application details.

Planning upgrades to your downspouts? 🌧️🏡

If you’re considering extending or burying your downspout drain, please keep the following important guidelines in mind:

✅ Discharge Location Matters
Downspout drains cannot discharge directly into a creek, pond, waterway, curb, or roadway.

✅ Stay on Private Property
All drainage should remain on your property and be located at least 10 feet from any sidewalk, curb, or roadway edge.

✅ Prevent Illicit Discharges
Improper discharge of roof runoff is considered an illicit discharge (a Code of Ordinances violation) due to potential contaminants polluting waterways.

✅ Allow Natural Filtration
Direct runoff to an area of your yard where water can percolate into the ground and be naturally filtered.

✅ Permits May Be Required
Installations within City right-of-way or easements are not allowed without a Right-of-Way/Easement Permit.

💧 Proper drainage protects your home, your neighbors, and our community’s waterways. Thank you for doing your part!

Happy National Dog Day!

🐾Friendly Reminder for Pet Owners 🐾

When enjoying our beautiful parks or strolling on the sidewalks with your pup, please remember to keep your dog leashed and always pick up after your pet.

‼️ Why picking up pet waste matters:
Uncollected dog waste isn’t just unpleasant—it can wash into our waterways, adding excess nutrients that lead to harmful algae blooms. These blooms reduce oxygen levels and can harm fish and other aquatic life. Dog waste can also carry harmful bacteria, like f***l coliform, that can impact both environmental and public health.

Let’s work together to protect Safety Harbor’s natural beauty and safety—for residents, visitors, and our four-legged friends alike! 🐶
