Voteonthepier.com EVERY VOTE COUNTS! The current Municipal Pier in St. Early estimates are between $10 Million and $12 Million JUST to tear it down and haul it away. PETERSBURG.

Petersburg, Florida has been an Iconic Landmark of both the City - and the entire Tampa Bay Area since 1973 - when it first opened. Over the years - due to deferred and inferior maintenance - the bridge leading out to the Pier - together with the decking of the Pier head - which is the area located AROUND the main inverted pyramid building - is now in need of being replaced and better reinforced -

as it has reached it's life expectancy. The City and County have earmarked $50 Million for this Project - that will become available in 2012 for this SIGNIFICANT Pier Refurbishing Project. Without question - what is there CAN be refurbished to brand new status - for FAR LESS than tearing the whole thing down - hauling it away - and starting over. Those numbers are VERY likely to exceed $15 Million when everything is considered by a 2013 start date. Just as with literally ANY public project - this one would likely end up costing $80 to $100 Million when all is said and done - and guess who would have to come up with the overage amounts above the $50 Million they have to work with? You guessed correct! The ONLY way the City currently proposes coming up with any extra funds - is to cut other City funded projects - and COULD even include raising taxes. THAT is the part they are not telling anyone right now - and ONCE the existing Pier is demolished and gone - it will then obviously be too late to consider more wisely spending what they have - to keep their visions within their budgeted amount - THAT DOES NOT include taking away from other projects and needs - and DOES NOT include any need to raise taxes in the future to pay for their earlier mistake. After more than 2-1/2 years of meetings - presentations and studies conducted by the City - and paid for by taxpaying residents (and VOTERS) of the City and County - this past August 26th - City Council decided to vote themselves as a group of 8 people with a win on the motion to demolish the existing Pier of only 5 PEOPLE - with NO PUBLIC HEARING - and NO PUBLIC VOTE - and replace it with "something else". The City Charter provides for CITY ELECTORS to make the final decision on significant expenditures - especially on the waterfront - through a publicly held referendum VOTE - which has been ignored by City leaders. It is for this reason - and this reason only - that we believe the CITY VOTERS should have the opportunity to make the final decision - as to whether the Pier is EITHER refurbished - or replaced. The ONLY way VOTERS will have the opportunity to have THEIR opinions count - is to force the issue onto the next Citywide Municipal Election Ballot - which takes place on November the 8th, 2011. In order for the item to be placed on that Ballot - we must obtain more than 16,000 VERIFIED SIGNATURES of REGISTERED VOTERS WITHIN THE CITY OF ST. This means we are targeting approximately 20,000+ signatures - as some signatures may not be accepted - as they may be duplicates - or the individual's voter registration may not be current - or any other number of reasons a signature of any registered voter may not be verifiable by the Supervisor of Elections of Pinellas County. We need the support of EVERY REGISTERED VOTER in St. Petersburg - REGARDLESS of whether you would like for the Pier to be refurbished - or demolished and replaced with "something else" that WILL be significantly shorter and smaller in scale and scope. We believe EVERY VOTE SHOULD COUNT when it comes to this very high profile Iconic Landmark's fate - EITHER WAY!

The parking paradox in downtown St. Pete. Pier issues? Garages not filling up? Where does visiting mom park? Vinoy Park?

If you don’t live downtown, why fight the parking and congestion?

Parking in St. Peterburg presents somewhat of a conundrum to city officials, as they must balance rapid growth with walkability and a desire to create more space for affordable housing. Thursday morning, members of city council, acting as the Public Services and Infrastructure Committee, discussed r...
