Thank you John and Joy Jordan for your continued dedication to 4-H!

It's time for our Pennsylvania 4-H Volunteer Spotlight! Each week, Pennsylvania 4-H highlights volunteers who are doing great work around the state.

Today, we are celebrating Joy and John Jordan of Crawford County!

Joy has been a 4-H volunteer leader in Crawford County 4-H for 26 years, and John has been a leader for 11 years.

Joy is the dairy goat project leader of both the Little Farmers and the Hemlock Adventures 4-H Club. Joy is also one of the family living leaders for the Hemlock Adventures 4-H Club. Joy is on the county 4-H goat milk fudge auction committee and helps plan and run the auction each year.

John is a project leader in Hemlock Adventures helping with science, engineering and outdoor projects. John helped with Bolts & Bytes 4-H club in the past and coached the club’s Engineering Design Challenge Team.

Their nominator says, "Anytime there is someone that needs a helping hand with a 4-H task Joy and John are there to help. They enjoy sharing their passion about 4-H and seeing youth thrive as they progress through their years in 4-H."

This is the last call to order your Crawford County 4-H t-shirts and hoodies! Please turn completed order forms and money into the Extension Office by this Wednesday, June 10th. The order form was emailed out to all Crawford County 4-H families this afternoon. We are open today until 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Note that the Extension Office is closed tomorrow (Tuesday, June 9th) during the business day due to staff commitments at other locations, but you can still leave orders during the day. Please use the black Penn State Extension Lock box on the porch to the left of the entrance doors (not the blue after hours tote that is not locked).

A poultry showmanship demonstration and practice will be held for Crawford County 4-H leaders, poultry members, and parents on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Penn State Extension Office. We will give a demonstration on the proper way to present your exhibition bird to the judge for showmanship as well as preparing your bird for fitting. This is a very important session all poultry members should attend as well as at least one leader from each club offering poultry. Leaders need to understand how to do this so they can help members. There will be a live bird present, so please make sure you do not wear clothing or footwear that you wear to care for your own birds. This is for biosecurity purposes to protect your flock! This session on Wednesday, June 17th at 7:00 p.m. is hosted by Crawford County Fair 4-H Poultry Chairpersons, Kim Munden and Tonya Whaley. 4-H members and leaders planning to attend should register in zSuite by Monday, June 8th at https://4h.zsuite.org/event-registrations/48684. Parents are invited to come watch, learn, and support the member but will not register in zSuite.

Crawford County was represented by 2 4-H members at this year's state Animal Science Camp. Cameron participated in the dairy track and Luke participated in the livestock track where they learned about topics such as farm safety, rumen digestion, ag careers, and other industry-specific topics. An equine track was also offered during the camp. Attendees get an opportunity to interact with 4-H members from across the state and experience Penn State University in depth by touring the campus and barns while staying overnight in the dorms!

Topics covered will be ATV/UTV Safety, PTO, Skid steer, and Tractor safety, livestock handling, and much more!

On May 20th we had the pleasure of hosting Crawford County 4-H's Progressive Ag Safety Day for 560 students in 4th grade from Crawford Central, Penncrest, and Conneaut Area School Districts as well as Crawford Christian Academy. Students traveled to the following safety stations: tractor and equipment, chemical, water, sun, tick, animal, public, ATV/UTV/bicycle, electrical, and weather. Thank you to sponsors, presenters, 4-H volunteers, and 4-H County Council members who made this event possible! Thanks to Skill Builders 4-H Club for stuffing and sorting the student take-home bags. We also want to give a special shout-out to our 4-H volunteer safety day coordinator Diana Householder who helped 4-H Educators Paula Lucas and Katie Gajdowski plan the event.

It’s time to order your Crawford County 4-H t-shirts and hoodies! The 2026 logo shirts are available in sport gray (light gray) with the logo on the back and a small green clover on the left front pocket area. You can also order general 4-H design (bottom right) shirts that are available in dark heather gray with white print and a green clover. T-shirts are $18 and hoodies are $38. Please turn completed order forms and money into the Extension Office by Wednesday, June 10th. The order form was included in the May newsletter and will also be included with the upcoming June issue. Get some 4-H apparel to show off your 4-H pride!

As announced in the May 4-H newsletter, this year’s logo contest winner is Cali Corson who is a member of Flying Fur. Cali will receive a t-shirt with the winning logo as the prize. Thank you to Daniel Willis from Townville Champs for also submitting a logo contest entry!
