Some Sadieville History:

214 Vine St - Hamilton & Sheehan House

This steep lot on the north side of Vine Street housed a stable in the early years of the twentieth century. The stable and lot sold in 1992 by John and Mary Barnes to Abraham and Margaret Stewart.

In 1903, the stable was once again sold to Nannie McCabe for $1400. Ms. McCabe also purchased the adjacent lot from Bernard and Virgie Hinton for $1.

In 1911, Nannie and W.W. McCabe sold the lot to Hamilton and Sheehan. Between 1911 and 1924 they built the home. J.T. Cunningham bought the house and lot in 1924.

Other buyers include J.D. and Hattie Nunnelley in 1930, Roy and Lucy Vallandingham in 1940, Lula and Raymond Wilson in 1951, Jimalee Reed in 1995, Jimalee and Matt Fitzpatrick in 2001, and current owner Terry Crump in 2018.

This home is a three bay story and half, built on a hall-parlor plan and sits on a banked basement foundation. A picture window has replaced the original single window on the west side of the front door. A porch shelters the three bays and a central chimney pierces the center of the roofline.

Some Sadieville history:

220 Railroad Ln - C.T. Covington Home

Covington purchased this 5 acre lot in 1884 from T.J. and Josie Burgess, right after his honeymoon. Around 1900, the Covington’s added the second story with the pair of roofline gables.

The newlywed couple had a romantic view at this location. Because of this spot, they were more protected from the train smoke and dust from the stockyard.

In 1941, the Covington heirs sold the home to Mary McCabe. Mary left the home to her heirs, Valerie Guy and her sons: Hubert, John, and Walter McCabe.

Mary sold the house in 1970 to C.C. Cook. In 1974, Karl M. and Bertha Baker purchased 2.6 acres and the home from Cook.

Then in 2006, Karl Baker Sr. sold the property to Jankie Jackson, who sold it in 2015 to McDevits Fresh Goods. Cynthia Holbrook became the owner in 2016, and then Scot Swanson in 2021.
