During a recent DUI investigation, the driver provided PAS results of .19% and .21%. More than twice the legal limit.

To help keep California's roads safe, the CHP will conduct a Labor Day Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) from 6:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7. During the HEP, CHP officers statewide will focus on removing impaired drivers from the road and educating motorists about the dangers of driving under the influence.

ONE LOOK AWAY CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING

Distracted driving remains one of the most preventable dangers on our roadways, especially for young and inexperienced drivers. Now, teens can experience those dangers in a whole new way—without ever leaving the safety of home.

A new interactive video game experience has been created to show teens just how quickly a distraction behind the wheel can lead to serious consequences. Developed through a collaboration between Caltrans, Impact Teen Drivers, and the California Office of Traffic Safety, “One Look Away” puts players behind the wheel and challenges them to recognize how even a momentary distraction can impact their ability to drive safely.

Whether it’s checking a text, changing a song, or looking away for just a second, the message is simple: when you’re driving, driving deserves your full attention.

Parents, this is a great opportunity to sit down with your teen driver, play the game together, and start a conversation about the real-world consequences of distracted driving.

September is California Rail Safety Month.

Whether you're driving, walking, or riding near railroad tracks, remember: trains always have the right of way.

• Obey railroad crossing signals and gates.
• Never stop on the tracks.
• Stay off railroad tracks and never use them as a shortcut.
• Look and listen for trains, even when a crossing appears clear.

A train can't stop quickly, but you can make the safe choice. 🚦🚶

See Something, Say Something

A concerned local citizen recently noticed two suspicious pedestrians in the area and called to report their activity. That call ultimately led CHP officers to two suspects who had allegedly vandalized utility poles and stolen copper wire.

Officers responded to the area, located the suspects, and conducted an investigation that resulted in an arrest and the recovery of evidence related to the theft.

This is a great example of how our community can help make a difference. Our officers can’t be everywhere at once, and an observant citizen taking the time to make a phone call helped put a stop to criminal activity in their neighborhood.

We appreciate our community members who stay alert and report suspicious activity. If you see something that doesn’t look right, don’t hesitate to say something. That call may be exactly what officers need to catch someone in the act.

🚨 THINK BEFORE YOU SPIN 🚨

Street racing and sideshows are reckless, dangerous, and illegal. These activities put participants, innocent motorists, pedestrians, and spectators at serious risk of injury or even death. Beyond the obvious danger, sideshows disrupt neighborhoods, damage public and private property, and create unnecessary hazards for the entire community.

If you choose to participate in, or observe a sideshow, be prepared for the consequences including but not limited to:
• 🚔 Your vehicle may be impounded for 30 days.
• ⚖️ You may face citations, arrest, criminal charges, and costly fines.
• 👀 Being a spectator at an illegal sideshow can also result in a citation, arrest, or the impound of your vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol and our law enforcement partners remain committed to stopping illegal street racing and sideshow activity. Our officers will use every available enforcement resource to identify and hold those responsible accountable.

And remember, if you leave the scene of a sideshow prior to law enforcement arriving, that does not mean you have escaped. Even if you are not apprehended at the scene, you can still be identified, investigated, and prosecuted. If you see illegal sideshow activity, report it when it is safe to do so. Together, we can keep our roads safe. Racing belongs on the track-not on our streets.

Think before you spin. The consequences simply aren't worth it.
