Partnerships make our communities safer.

Recently, CHP North Sacramento joined forces with Beale Air Force Base, Yuba City Police Department, and the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office for a collaborative motorcycle safety training event. The goal of the training was to provide Air Force personnel with valuable knowledge and hands-on instruction to help them become safer riders both on and off duty.

Motorcycles offer freedom and excitement, but they also require a heightened level of skill, awareness, and responsibility. Through classroom instruction and practical riding exercises, participants learned techniques designed to improve rider safety, hazard recognition, and overall motorcycle operation.

We are proud to work alongside our law enforcement and military partners to promote safe riding practices and help reduce motorcycle-related collisions and injuries. Thank you to everyone who helped make this training a success.

This Memorial Day, the California Highway Patrol honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We remember their courage, their commitment, and the families who continue to carry their legacy.

Their sacrifice reminds us that safety is a responsibility we all share. As we reflect on their service, we encourage everyone to drive safely, remain vigilant and make responsible choices on the road.

California recognizes May as Wildfire Awareness Month. Wildfires threaten lives, homes, and communities — and prevention starts with all of us. Your California Highway Patrol encourages everyone to take simple precautions to help reduce wildfire risks:

🔥 Wildfire Safety Tips:
❌ Never toss cigarette butts from a vehicle
❌Avoid parking on dry grass
✅ Secure trailer chains to prevent roadside sparks
✅Obey all fire restrictions and evacuation orders
✅Have a family emergency bag with all essentials such as medications, documents, and supplies.
✅Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle during fire season and plan multiple evacuation routes
✅Maintain your vehicle at a minimum of half tank

Most importantly if you see smoke or fire near a roadway, report it immediately by calling 911 or local emergency services.

As temperatures rise and conditions become drier, everyone plays a pivotal role in preventing wildfires and keeping our communities safe.

Together, we can help protect lives, property, wildlife, and our highways. Stay alert. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

A seat belt can be the difference between walking away from a crash and never making it home.

From May 18–31, the California Highway Patrol will participate in the national Click It or Ticket campaign with increased seat belt enforcement. Officers will be stopping drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up.

Too many lives are lost each year because someone chose not to wear a seat belt. In a crash, being ejected from a vehicle is often deadly, and airbags alone are not enough to protect you.

Buckle up correctly every trip:
✔️ Shoulder belt across your chest
✔️ Lap belt low across your hips
❌ Never behind your back or under your arm

You may have seen them on the roadway, but did you notice them?

Our new SMPVs (Specially Marked Patrol Vehicles) are helping us identify and stop dangerous driving behaviors that put everyone at risk. These vehicles blend into traffic more effectively, allowing officers to observe violations as they happen and take enforcement action against drivers who choose to speed, drive aggressively, use their phones behind the wheel, or engage in other unsafe behaviors.

The goal isn't to surprise safe drivers—it's to hold accountable those who put others in danger. If you're driving responsibly, you have nothing to worry about. If you're making unsafe choices behind the wheel, our SMPVs may be closer than you think.

This past weekend, CHP North Sacramento was honored to join community leaders, families, and partners at Howe Community Park in celebrating the grand opening of the first-ever Safe Play Park! This event also carried special significance as we honored the legacy of Dwight “Spike” Helmick whose heart for service inspired this work.

This park provides children and families with a safe place to develop safe walking, riding, rolling, and future driving habits that can last a lifetime, while also creating lasting memories. Creating safe spaces for our communities goes beyond the roadway, and we are proud to support programs that help keep our neighborhoods strong and connected.

A special thank you to everyone whose hard work and dedication made this project possible. Seeing families enjoy these new parks is a reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared goal of safety and opportunity for all.
We look forward to seeing these parks filled with laughter, recreation, and positive experiences for years to come.
