Both the Democrat and Republican parties treat California as a political ATM. Candidates from each party do not campaign here; they only drop in to hold high-priced fundraisers, and then take the money to spend in other “battleground states.” The Democrat party takes California for granted, assuming they don’t need to work to earn votes here. The Republican party writes California off as a loss.
The net result is that millions of Californians do not have their voice heard. When our electoral votes accurately reflect our California popular vote, we will see presidential candidates campaigning in California again. This is a Fair Vote initiative; it guarantees that EVERY VOTE COUNTS at the exclusion of none. Make Our Vote Count is an opportunity for the voters of California to stand up for their own voice. For too long, big-money special interest groups have been the political “kingmakers” in California. It’s time for the political parties to understand that the PEOPLE of California are the only "special interest group" that matters. It’s only a “party" if everyone is invited! California needs the Make Our Vote Count Act to become law so the distribution of our 55 Electoral College votes match the popular vote of California voters. The current winner-take-all system ignores the votes of millions of California voters and denies third-party candidates even a remote chance to earn a single Electoral College vote. 27 percent of California voters are not registered as Democrat or Republican, and yet only Democrat and Republican candidates receive Electoral College votes. When the Make Our Vote Count Act is law, third parties will have a viable opportunity to earn Electoral College votes in California. California, with it’s vast diversity in people and resources, deserves to Make Our Vote Count!
