We feared at its inception
We did not feel prepared to be the heirs
of such a terrifying hour
but within it we found the power
to author a new chapter”

🔸Now that you have made it clear on social media you have some understanding of these discrepancies. We encourage you to take such realities into account in the future when dealing with matters of policy and funds allocation pertaining to local law enforcement and public health.

We commend your swift condemnation of acts of treason and your recognition of the inherent racism in the difference in law enforcement response between the Jan 6th insurrectionists vs BLM protestors.

SacChange and friends of the coalition look forward to future opportunities where we can be supportive of your actions and positions.

✊🏼✊🏾✊🏾Thanks to your help we stopped the Sacramento DA, Sheriff, and Assessor from increasing their contribution limits nearly 5 times what they are currently!

Together we gave them a loud and clear ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
You sent emails, you called in for public comment, you shared on social media AND WE BEAT THEM.
Please give a shoutout on social media to the Coalition of Orgs that came together to help fight for our community.

The District Attorney and Sheriff are the most important criminal justice office holdings in our community. ‼️ITS TIME THEY LISTEN TO US, THE PEOPLE!

🔶We know big money ALREADY influences our elected officials. We know that DA Ann Marie Schubert has accepted over $400,000 from police unions, including $16,000 in the days following the shooting of Stephon Clark. We know that Sheriff Scott Jones accepted donations from vendors seeking contracts for Sacramento County jails. These vendors charge inmates and their families outrageous prices for telephone calls and basic goods such as hygiene kits and care packages. Their new ordinance would only allow more profiteering.

💁🏾‍♀️It’s the upholding transparency in our local elections for me! (Full story below)

🔸Tuesday, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors could make a decision that will change what elections look like in the future.

The five members on the board might increase the amount of an individual contribution to a candidate during a county election to $25,000.

This amount is $22,000 more than what a state law taking effect Jan. 1 would call for unless a local government sets its own limit.

That hike is requested by District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert and Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones for 2022. It could mean $50,000 overall from an individual contributor in a race with a March primary and a November run-off.

Sonseeahray spoke to Ashley Draper from about the push to keep campaign contributions to a figure closer to $1,500.
