Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. For the children and young people served by CA Alliance members, this isn't an abstract issue: youth in care face significantly higher rates of suicidal ideation and attempts than their peers.

The caregivers and direct care staff across our network are often the first to notice when a child is struggling, and the first to offer support. That work matters every day, not just today.

We're proud to share that our very own Open Doors Training program has been awarded $200,000 through the Opioid and Stimulant Use Disorder Prevention and Education program.

This grant, funded through the California Department of Health Care Services ' State Opioid Response IV grant, will support evidence-based training for non-medical youth-serving professionals and trusted adults across Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties. The training will help equip caring adults to recognize early signs of youth substance use, engage young people in supportive, stigma-free conversations, and connect them to prevention and treatment resources.

Congratulations to the entire Open Doors team on this recognition of your work supporting children, youth, and families across the State.

Congratulations to Eggleston Youth Centers , a CA Alliance member, on receiving a $200,000 grant through the Opioid and Stimulant Use Disorder Prevention and Education program. This funding, supported by the Department of Health Care Services' State Opioid Response IV grant, will help Eggleston expand community-based outreach, education, and naloxone distribution across Los Angeles County. Their work will also strengthen treatment referral pathways and connect more community members to evidence-based care, including medications for addiction treatment.

We are proud to see our members leading efforts to reduce stigma and save lives across California. Congratulations to the entire Eggleston team on this well-deserved recognition.

California took a major step toward restoring the "Press 3" option on the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, the dedicated pathway that connects LGBTQ+ youth with specially trained crisis counselors.

CA Alliance was a proud sponsor of AB 1540 by Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez , and our advocacy helped shape the policy included in AB 173 and AB 113, which have now passed the Legislature and await the Governor's signature. If signed, California will be positioned to act if the federal replacement falls short for the young people who need it most.
