JUST OVER ONE MONTH OUT!

Precision. Preparation. Purpose.

The 3rd Annual Northern California Hostage Rescue Symposium, a professional training and knowledge-sharing event for the SWAT community.

This event also serves a greater purpose in supporting CATO Cares. Over the last two years this event has raised funds for SWAT families facing heart breaking childhood cancer. Through CATO Cares we have also had the honor of presenting 3 children with their own warrior tactical vest – a symbol of strength, courage, and resilience.

Reach out to Darryl Roderick @ [email protected] to get your team signed up for this jam packed one day event. Full team spots will go fast, but we will not close off individual registration.

🔹Real-world operational lessons
🔹Mission-driven instruction
🔹No SWAT family left alone

Registration for the 2026 Northern California Hostage Rescue Symposium is now open. The date is set for February 13th (See the flyer for info)

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail and the SacTac Foundation has partnered with the Northern California Public Safety Training Authority to host this jam packed event.

Your team will experience 3 Hostage Rescue de-briefs from 3 different SWAT teams, the opportunity to launch on 4 different HR scenarios, and an even greater opportunity to support CATO Cares through an awesome raffle at the end of the day. In the past our generous donors have done an amazing job of providing great raffle prizes.

There will be a USPSA style 2-gun competition ($40 a person) with 1st 2nd 3rd place prizes. All proceeds will go directly to CATO Cares. This is a great way to support, have some fun, and maybe take home a legit prize.

Lunch will be served to all those who register.

You can visit our robust vendor show during your down time.

Most importantly, come ready to build bridges with other teams, share your experiences and lessons learned, and support a great cause ensuring none of our SWAT brothers and sisters face hardship alone.

The date is set, February 28th! We’re excited to host this event for a 2nd year in a row. It’s an honor and a privilege to host, and provide the region with a day of HR training opportunities. Last years event had 25 different agencies and over 300 SWAT personnel attend. Additionally, we’re looking forward to another robust vendor show and their support. Remember, space will be limited for full SWAT team registration simply due to time. No cap on individual attendees.

Always ready!! With a large and busy international airport in our jurisdiction, SED frequently conducts training in, on, and around various types of aircraft. While the FBI has tactical jurisdiction on critical incidents on aircraft, there are still several instances when SED would retain primary control of the incident. As such, they make some to train appropriately for these situations at a local training facility. When it comes to ensuring the safety of the public, SED makes sure they are covering all possible scenarios to arrive at the best outcome possible! Service with Concern!

SED responded to assist SPD SWAT with a large, open area search in heavy foliage in the north area of the city after an armed attempt homicide suspect fled into an area between two levees and filled with homeless encampments. The search was long, hot, dirty, and arduous but coordination between both teams and a solid working relationship made the search effective and safe for all LEO’s and the people residing in the encampments and surrounding neighborhoods. In these instances, tactical teams will utilize as many tools and options as are practical for the situation at hand to ensure a safe resolution. In this case, teams utilized their Aero teams, their UAS teams, K9 teams, the SED ROOK, and prepared less lethal & chemical agents for use if necessary. • With both SED and SPD SWAT being full-time tactical teams, it is not uncommon for each team to call upon the other for assistance when incidents present tactical safety concerns for the public, LEO’s, and the suspect(s) in order to ensure a safe, successful resolution while keeping our communities safe! • Does your team work and train regularly with your neighboring tactical units? If not, now is the time to start to develop relationships and plans to aid the community in times of crisis!

Honor the Fallen!!
Deputy Mark V. Stasyuk – End of Watch: September 17, 2018

Shortly after 1:30 pm on Monday, September 17, 2018, Deputy Mark Stasyuk (27) and his partner were patrolling in the City of Rancho Cordova, as Rancho Cordova Police Officers, which is a contract city with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. They were dispatched to a reported disturbance at a local business. The initial call for service gave no indication that the suspect was armed or dangerous. Immediately upon their arrival, the suspect began shooting at both deputies, who returned fire. During the gun battle, both deputies were shot by the suspect. Deputy Stasyuk was provided emergency medical treatment on scene and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second deputy was treated for a gunshot wound and released from the hospital.

After shooting the deputies, the suspect fled from the initial scene on foot and again, engaged other responding deputies in a gunfight. During the incident, the suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Shortly after fleeing, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
