✈️ The next refresh at SMF is officially getting started.

You’ve already seen a major transformation of our food and beverage options, with new restaurants, more local Sacramento favorites and a whole lot more variety throughout the terminals.

Now, it’s time to refresh another part of the airport experience: **automated concessions** — think vending machines and other self-service retail options throughout the airport.

These opportunities refresh every five years, giving us a chance to see what’s working, what travelers want, and what new ideas businesses can bring to SMF.

We’ve issued a **Request for Proposals (RFP)**, which is essentially an invitation for businesses to submit their ideas and proposals for operating these services at our airports.

📅 Proposals are due October 28, 2026.

Sacramento County Department of Airports is recruiting for an Associate Civil Engineer/Architect to help support the planning, design and construction of projects across our airport system.

The next filing cut-off is tomorrow, August 28 at 5 p.m., with a final filing cut-off of September 11 at 5 p.m.

You had thoughts. A LOT of thoughts. And we asked for them. 👀✈️

More than 2,000 people took our SMF Master Plan survey to help shape the airport’s next 20 years. Thank you!

A few things we learned:
✈️ 67% want more nonstop destinations. Trust us, our Air Service team loves hearing that.
🏖️ 53% primarily travel for vacation. As you should.
🧳 About 30% of you fly through SMF at least once a month. At this point, welcome home.
🍴 46% said they’re satisfied or very satisfied with our food and shopping. We do have one question: when was the last time the other 54% were here? Because we’ve basically replaced the whole menu. 👀
🚗 We heard you on parking. Good news: 5,500 new spaces are coming with Parking Garage 2 before Thanksgiving, with parking reservations coming in mid-2027.
🚈 And yes, we read the comments. 330 of you specifically mentioned light rail. Message = received.
🚧 86% said they’d accept some construction inconvenience for a better SMF long-term. We may need to screenshot that one for later.

Most importantly: thousands of you took time to tell us what you want SMF to become. We’re listening. 💙
