CA CALA Executive Director Victor Gomez recently joined The Andy Caldwell Show to talk about a growing issue impacting California small businesses: lawsuit abuse.

From ADA “drive-by” lawsuits to abusive Prop 65 and PAGA claims, too many small business owners are being hit with costly litigation that often does little to improve accessibility or consumer protection — but does threaten jobs, investment, and local businesses.

Thank you to Brian Reisinger and The Andy Caldwell Show for the opportunity to discuss why California needs balanced reforms that protect both consumers and honest business owners.

California small businesses are under attack from abusive ADA lawsuits that often prioritize quick settlements over real accessibility improvements.

This week, CALA Executive Director Victor Gomez joined California Insider with The Epoch Times to discuss Senate Bill 84 — legislation aimed at creating a fair “notice and cure” process that gives business owners an opportunity to fix violations before being dragged into costly litigation.

Accessibility matters. Compliance matters. But California’s current system is being exploited in ways that hurt family-owned businesses, restaurants, retailers, and local job creators across our state.

SB 84 is about restoring balance, protecting accessibility rights, and stopping lawsuit abuse.

“TPLF fuels the wave of frivolous litigation that raises costs across the economy, leaving families with less money in their pockets and fewer opportunities to get ahead while these wealthy outside investors earn millions in tax-free profits,” said Victor Gomez, executive director of Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA)

Californians are well aware of the rising cost of living. Housing, energy, food, and taxes dominate kitchen-table conversations across the state. But there is another cost burden most families never see on a bill or ballot — a hidden “tort tax” that quietly drains our economy, raises prices, and undermines job growth.

New Report Measures the Impact of Lawsuit Abuse in California

Today, Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) released its latest Economic Impact of Lawsuit Abuse report, revealing that every Californian pays a $2,567 hidden “tort tax” due to excessive litigation. This number represents the hidden tax and the extra burden every Californian pays per year to compensate for California’s overly litigious climate.
