Sacramento County’s Source For Coordinating & Funding Transportation Projects and Programs.

The STA administers the Sacramento County Measure A Transportation Sales Tax Program & manages the SacMetro Freeway Service Patrol program. What We Do

The STA is primarily responsible for administering the Measure A program: the half-percent sales tax for transportation improvements in Sacramento County. The STA also administers the Sacramento Metropolitan Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) program in

cooperation with Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol. The program's primary objective is to reduce the traffic congestion caused by roadway incidents. The STA Governing Board and staff also serve as the Governing Board and staff of the Sacramento Abandoned Vehicle Service Authority (SAVSA). SAVSA provides funding to participating local jurisdictions for the abatement of abandoned vehicles and vehicle parts on streets and private property. The STA is the only local countywide transportation agency and, therefore, provides a number of other functions related to setting priorities for the expenditure of specified state and federal transportation funds in Sacramento County.

The Sacramento Transportation Authority congratulates our local agency partners whose transportation projects are being recognized with 2026 Project of the Year Awards by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Sacramento Chapter on August 7.

🏆 City of Citrus Heights – Auburn Boulevard Complete Streets Phase 2
Measure A provided $1.195 million in Smart Growth funding, helping the City leverage an additional $12.324 million in SACOG Community Design funding to advance this major corridor improvement.

🏆 City of Sacramento – Franklin Boulevard Complete Street Project
Measure A provided $750,000 in Smart Growth funding, helping leverage $5.411 million in SACOG Community Design funding for improvements along this important community corridor.

🏆 City of Rancho Cordova – Sunrise Boulevard Rehabilitation Phase 3 and Baroque Traffic Calming Project
Both award-winning projects were supported by Measure A, helping improve local streets, safety, and mobility in Rancho Cordova.

Congratulations to Citrus Heights, Sacramento, and Rancho Cordova, along with the many public agency staff, consultants, contractors, and community partners who helped make these projects possible.

These awards are a great example of how local Measure A investments can support and leverage larger transportation improvements throughout Sacramento County.

Public safety. It’s a top priority for STA and SacRT.

The SacRT Safe Routes to Transit Plan is a countywide effort funded by a Caltrans Sustainable Communities grant, with support from STA. This Plan is identifying key safety gaps and making recommended improvements to ensure safer, more convenient access to bus stops and light rail stations.

STA advocates for funding to help implement priority safety improvements and provides Measure A revenues to local agencies to implement safety projects.
