As we continue “House of Origin,” I am pleased to announce that 3 more bills are on their way to the State Senate:

AB 1603 – this bill establishes incremental benchmarks to halt the use of PFAS pesticides, while allowing state officials and agricultural industries time to adjust, along with clear guidelines regarding their use.

AB 1905 - this bill establishes clear guidelines and limitations regarding the custodial interrogation of minors.

AB 2612 - this bill requires the California Building Standards Commission and the Dept. of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to develop and adopt mandatory building standards that enable qualified photovoltaic systems to safely function as an energy source within residential and nonresidential electrical circuits.

Today, I was honored to join our community in commemorating Memorial Day at ceremonies in Montrose, Glendale, and Sunland-Tujunga.

We gathered to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

Thank you to the veterans, families, organizers, and community members who came together to honor our fallen heroes and preserve the meaning of this solemn day. May we continue to uphold the values they fought to defend. 🇺🇸

It was an eventful week in Sacramento. As we quickly approach the house of origin deadline, we were successful in getting two of our bills voted off of the Assembly floor and sent over to the Senate.

AB 1546 modernizes DUI penalties and strengthens accountability for repeat offenders in California by requiring that a third DUI within 10 years be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony and a fifth DUI be charged as a felony. This bill would additionally increase the license revocation period, ignition interlock device installation period, and probation conditions for specific reoffenders.

Determinations of how much energy is necessary to meet California’s power needs are currently performed via a patchwork of separately enacted clean energy programs. AB 2266 directs the CPUC to streamline these planning decisions into one cohesive workflow, to use consistent methodologies across all programs and to improve accountability through a yearly evaluation of the real-world impact of their calculations on actual energy purchases.

Earlier this week, I was delighted to welcome Making It Happen to our state capital. Making It Happen was selected by our office and honored as the non-profit of the year for California’s 44th Assembly District.

Making It Happen is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) based in the Sunland–Tujunga area of Los Angeles. Their mission is to help people in the community who are struggling with homelessness, hunger, unemployment, or financial hardship. Specifically, they:

Run a weekly food pantry distributing groceries and fresh food to local families and unhoused residents.

Serve free holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Help connect people to temporary and permanent housing resources.

Provide clothing, hygiene supplies, blankets, and essentials.

Organize free medical, dental, and vision clinics with partner organizations.

Offer job-training and employment support
Hold outreach events for disadvantaged children and families.

The organization was founded by Patricia “Pattee” Colvin after her own experience with homelessness and receiving help from food-bank volunteers.

Congratulations again on this well-deserved recognition!
