There are growing concerns regarding reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may travel to Los Angeles for the upcoming FIFA World Cup match on June 25.

My district is home to the largest Armenian community outside of Armenia. I proudly represent these constituents, and I stand with this community today, just as I have throughout my tenure. The values of our community are rooted in justice, the recognition of historical truth, and the protection of human rights.

The Armenian Genocide is not a subject of debate; it is a historical fact recognized by the United States government, the State of California, and local jurisdictions across Los Angeles. President Erdoğan’s ongoing, active denial of this genocide is an affront to the memory of the 1.5 million victims and a profound source of pain for their descendants.

Beyond the history of 1915, the actions taken under President Erdoğan’s leadership in recent years—specifically his government’s role in enabling the ethnic cleansing of 120,000 Armenians from their ancestral homeland of Artsakh—demand our condemnation. To provide any form of ceremonial welcome, official recognition, or photo opportunity to a leader who has openly championed these actions would be a failure of moral leadership and completely inconsistent with the values we hold dear in California.

I join my constituents in making it clear: those who actively deny the genocide of the past and facilitate the human rights atrocities of the present do not deserve the hospitality or validation of our public institutions. I urge all local, state, and federal officials to refrain from any ceremonial engagement with President Erdoğan should he visit our region.

My office remains committed to standing in solidarity with the Armenian-American community as they continue to seek truth, justice, and accountability.

The Boyle Heights warehouse fire is a reminder that air quality conditions can change quickly and impact communities across our region. Stay informed, monitor local air quality updates, and wear a well-fitting mask when air quality reaches unhealthy levels. By taking steps to protect ourselves and one another, we can help safeguard our communities and accelerate recovery. We are in this together.

Father’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on the lessons, values, and support that fathers and father figures provide throughout our lives.

I’m grateful for the fathers who help guide our families and communities with love, patience, and dedication.

Wishing all fathers and father figures a very happy Father’s Day!

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a historic milestone marking the end of slavery in the United States and a powerful reminder that freedom must be realized in practice—not just promised in principle.

We honor the generations of Black Americans whose strength, leadership, and contributions have helped shape our communities, our state, and our nation.

As we reflect on our history, we also renew our commitment to advancing opportunity, equity, and justice for all.

Happy Juneteenth!

Our office has been hard at work over the last six months to advance legislation aiming to protect consumers, expand access to affordable housing, improve road safety, and keep critical entertainment industry jobs in our communities.

I am proud to report that the following bills were passed by the California State Assembly and are now under review in the State Senate:

AB 306 aims to streamline and bring consistency to the state’s building code system. The bill introduces a standardized, expedited appeals process to combat fragmented code interpretations that delay housing construction.

AB 1546 modernizes DUI penalties and strengthens accountability for repeat offenders in California by requiring that a third DUI within 10 years be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony and a fifth DUI be charged as a felony.

AB 1603 moves the state towards an end to the use of PFAS pesticides in California. It establishes incremental benchmarks to halt the use of the forever chemicals between 2027 and 2035, allowing state officials and agricultural industries time to adjust.

AB 2319 establishes a targeted post-production incentive to encourage film and television post-production work to remain in California, supporting high-quality jobs, preserving long-standing industry infrastructure and generating significant economic activity throughout the state.

My District Staff was honored to attend the Annual North Los Angeles County Regional Center (NLACRC) Legislative Breakfast alongside advocates, families, and providers dedicated to serving our communities.

This year’s theme, “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: Strengthening the Regional Center System for the Future,” fostered meaningful conversations about the policies and priorities shaping the future for individuals with developmental disabilities.

A heartfelt thank you to NLACRC for your unwavering commitment to transforming advocacy into integration and celebration. Your work strengthens our communities every day!
