California Conservation Corps This is the official Facebook for the California Conservation Corps - a State of California Dept.

The California Conservation Corps is a department within the California Natural Resources Agency. We are the oldest and largest conservation corps in the nation. Our program provides young adults 18 – 25 years old, and military veterans up to 29, a year of paid service to the State of California. During their year of service, Corpsmembers work on environmental projects and respond to natural and man-made disasters. Through this work, they gain skills and experience that lead to meaningful careers. Our motto is ‘Hard Work, Low Pay, Miserable Conditions and More!’ We are dedicated to developing our Corpsmembers into citizens with character, credentials, and commitment. This isn’t your parents’ old-fashioned level. This is a high-tech to measure inclines, slopes, angles, and yes, levels. This particular electronic spirit level helps our Corpsmembers check, with high precision, the slope of the substructure of a trail boardwalk. Before stringers are anchored in and put into place, they’ve got to make sure the grade is acceptable for hikers in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It’s one of the very cool .

Prepared now for whatever Mother Nature may bring in the future. This , an important reminder that crews will be there if, and when, El Niño storms bring rising waters, mud flows, and more to our communities. Across the next month, Corpsmembers will be learning, or honing, flood fighter techniques. In recent years, Corpsmembers and staff have responded to everything from debris flows and watershed protection to flood waters and erosion. And every year we train and prepare for the worst. This year is no different. As the CCC prepares, so can you. Prepare now at ready.ca.gov to learn more.

In the process, she fell in love with the outdoors. After gaining two years of experience in trails, forestry, and resource conservation, Kayla decided to make the leap from and centers to California State Parks. “CCC broadened my horizons by showing me I could get a job in the outdoors and do meaningful work,” she said. Here’s an important , the handheld weather meter. These devices – every model is different – can measure the air temperature, relative humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, atmospheric pressure, even heat index or wind chill. A Corpsmember uses one here during a fire training day in San Luis Obispo County. While fire crews are briefed on the weather each day, once on an incident things can change and it’s important to know the conditions right where you’re working. It’s all about safety and being prepared!

“CCC is a great program, and it has everything to offer. I wish I would’ve known about the program earlier,” said alum Alex Ruiz. During his time at the Center, he supported wildfire basecamps and completed energy retrofit projects – earning a green ‘specialist’ hat in the process. Then, taking his experience to the next level, he participated in a at Metropolitan State Hospital. “It allowed me to build a great resume and get hands on experience with maintenance work,” he said. Now, Alex has landed a job at that same hospital! He’ll be working on carpentry and other projects as a building maintenance worker. Congratulations, Alex, on your !

Just when you think you cannot do something, you can prove yourself wrong and open up opportunities for yourself and the future. It’s what Audrianna Frausto experienced at the Center. Not only did Audrianna earn her high school diploma, she also earned certifications that can lead to a great career, and, in her words, gained a family along the way.
