Sac Metro FSP The Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) is a program which reduces freeway congestion by quickly finding and removing minor incidents from the freeway.

FSP saves area motorists millions of wasted hours battling traffic congestion and slowdowns. Specially-trained drivers in marked white trucks continuously rove area freeways during peak commute times on the lookout for minor accidents and stalled or disabled vehicles. Such incidents cause up to half of our local freeway congestion as a chain-reaction of passing motorists slow to avoid an accident

or just to see what is going on. FSP will make quick repairs such as fixing a flat, providing a gallon of gas, taping a hose, or jump-starting the engine. If a vehicle can't get going again within 10 minutes, FSP will tow the vehicle to safety off the highway where additional help can be summoned and so that traffic can resume flowing normally.
