Good morning Defenders!
One of the things that discouraged me from the specialty of defense investigation at the start of my career, was the lack of willingness from "Experienced" investigators to mentor me and show me the specifics of defense investigation. I could find any number of investigators that would tell me why they were the best investigator in the state of California or the best investigator in the country. It was very easy to find investigators that would tell me what a terrible investigator so and so was and how much better they were than the other guy.
I was fortunate enough early in my decision to focus primarily on defense investigation, to happen across some very good defense investigators that were not only willing to teach me the art and science of defense investigation but they helped me to understand the methodology and philosophy of sound defense investigation. The Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council (CDITC), showed me through example how to conduct my investigations in an organized, methodical, ethically responsible, and procedurally sound manner.
As you know there is no central repository of information for defense and forensic investigations. There is nowhere for us to spotlight and highlight the expertise we have in the community, and provide that information to clients. No platform to present and promote the expertise of CCDI’s and other investigative forensic professionals. With that in mind, as well as the commitment to elevate the discipline of Defense and Forensic Investigation, in collaboration with the Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council (CDITC), we have created the California Center For Investigative Study.
The Center comprises a community of passionate investigators, forensic experts, attorney's, legal professionals, and learners, committed to promoting and elevating the discipline of criminal defense and due process investigation. We are dedicated to the promotion of education, experience, and expertise in defense investigation through peer review, statistical, scientific, validity data testing, information, training, and advanced study of the art and science of defense investigation.
If COVID has shown us anything, it has shown us that we don't have to be in the same place anymore in order to accomplish our jobs as justice professionals. This platform will allow us to do that. The Center will serve as the central information repository for experts in criminal defense and forensic investigation, forensic expert witnesses, academic professionals, attorneys and legal support staff, engaged in investigating, defending, and presenting civil and criminal court cases.
We have created an Expert CCDI directory that contains bio’s and information, as well as a referral system to assist our clients in both the private and public sectors, in finding the expert they need all over the country. If you are interested in having a listing and are a board certified investigator you can go to the web link below and subscribe to the Centers website. You can also email or instant message me for further information.
