Twenty-five years ago today, first responders answered the call. The officers, firefighters, and EMS who ran toward danger that morning represent the very best of us — and their sacrifice is why we serve. We honor them, and we never forget. #911

Detective Bill has served his community since 2014. Now, he and his family need our support as he faces aggressive liver cancer. A newlywed, father to a young son and stepfather to two, Bill has missed work during his illness, adding financial strain to an already difficult time.

Help ease the burden of lost income, medical bills and family expenses.

The Criminal Justice Legal Foundation argues that California’s Board of Parole Hearings created a new pathway toward release without legislative approval. Is this a policy change—or an abuse of authority?

Happy 176th Birthday, .

From the Gold Rush to the digital age, one constant has held this state together: the courage of those who wear the badge.

Here’s to the Golden State. And to the men and women who keep it gold.

Great news: The spreadsheet says cops and firefighters can work until 57.

Small problem: A spreadsheet has never chased a fleeing suspect, climbed into a burning building or worked another forced overtime shift because half the team is out injured.

Bodies break down. Injuries mount. Vacancies go unfilled. And the public safety professionals still standing are forced to carry even more of the load.

That isn’t a sustainable staffing model. It is the predictable result of pushing people in physically punishing careers beyond the breaking point.

Senator Seyarto put a human face on this debate: heart problems, back problems, neck problems and a rebuilt shoulder after a career of public service.

Actuarial assumptions don’t feel pain. People do.

AB 1383 recognizes that reality. Governor Newsom should too.

Thank you, Senator Seyarto, for sharing your story.

Governor Newsom: Please sign AB 1383.

“A budget is nothing more than a blueprint of our priorities.”

Governor Newsom, what do you want California’s blueprint to say?

That we value the officers and firefighters who protect our communities? That we will give struggling cities and counties the tools to recruit and retain them? That the safety of our communities is worth the investment?

Or that we don’t care if Californians wait more than 38 minutes for help to arrive when they need it most?

Thank you, Senator Strickland, for standing with California’s communities.

Governor Newsom: The next line in California’s blueprint is yours to write. We respectfully urge you to sign AB 1383.
