This PRIDE Month, we honor the LGBTQIA+ innovators whose brilliance has reshaped our understanding of science, technology, and the natural world.

We look to Lynn Conway, whose groundbreaking work in microchip design revolutionized computing. We celebrate Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi, whose Nobel Prize–winning research is opening new frontiers in medicine. And we uplift Rachel Carson, whose environmental advocacy awakened a global movement for ecological stewardship.

These leaders they expanded possibilities in STEM for the LGBTQIA+ community. Their courage to live authentically and push boundaries reminds us that progress is powered by diversity, and that the future is brightest when everyone is free to contribute their full selves.

June 17 marks LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day and the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls joins partners across the nation in calling attention to persistent wage inequities among LGBTQIA+ workers.

LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day highlights the ongoing wage disparities affecting LGBTQIA+ workers. Achieving pay equity is essential for ensuring justice and economic security for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families. We can’t close wage gaps we can’t see. LGBTQIA+ workers, especially transgender people and LGBTQIA+ people of color, deserve accurate data and strong protections. Advancing inclusive data collection and worker‑centered policies is how we build a more equitable future.

The California Economic Policy Forum at the UC Student and Policy Center brought together leaders and experts who explored the future of the UC system and the policy shifts shaping California’s economic landscape as reported in the 2026 UCLA Anderson Economic Forecast. It was great hearing from California leaders like California State Controller's Office Malia Cohen 郭嫻, Executive Director & CEO League of California Cities, Carolyn Coleman, Faculty Director Emeritus & Senior Economist, UCLA Anderson Forecast, Jerry Nickelsburg and connecting with CA Commission on APIA Affairs Executive Director Khy Alam. Engaging with students, faculty, and policymakers underscored the importance of informed, equity‑driven decision‑making as we navigate the changes ahead.
