Join us tomorrow AM as we unveil $12M for Lower American River Parkway Public Access Improvements!

Assemblymember Kevin McCarty and Senator Richard Pan will present a $12 million check and announce over a dozen projects to enhance public access along the Lower American River Parkway. Recipients of the monies will include:

-City of Sacramento/Sutter's Landing Park and Two Rivers Trail
-County of Sacramento/Woodlake Gateway
-Sacramento Valley Conservancy/Camp Pollack
-Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps

I’m proud to support Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna in his proposal to protect the American River Parkway. Last year I wrote a law to create the CA Lower American River Conservancy and was able to secure a $1 million appropriation in the 2017 State Budget to support the Parkway. I have made improving our Parkway a legislative priority for 2018. I’m pushing a park/water bond measure which currently includes a $20 million allocation for the American River Parkway.

Ultimately, state investment is much more meaningful with local funding as well.

Great news for the American River Parkway. The adopted budget includes $1 million in one-time resources to improve the Parkway. Lower America River Conservancy commissioners will convene stakeholders to come up with a expenditure plan.

What ideas do you have for the $1million?

FYI, the resources could be only used for one/time, physical improvements and funding can't be used for ranger staffing, etc.

SACRAMENTO (AP) — The California Assembly narrowly voted Monday to put a measure seeking $3 billion in bonds for parks on the 2018 ballot. The bill, AB18, required a two-thirds majority and passed with no votes to spare. It now moves to the Senate, where it will also require two-thirds approval.

The Jewel of Sacramento has other hidden treasures, too!

Forty archaeological sites of the peoples (the most populous of the Maidu band) have been recorded on the banks of the American River going back as early as 3000 BC. They called the American River the "K*m Sayo," meaning “Roundhouse River."

The American River Parkway provides recreation, natural habitat and flood control. Yet there is significant room to extend the parkway’s benefits to more residents. One bill that deserves attention is Assembly Bill 1716, the Lower American River Conservancy Act.
