Interested in learning more about the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's efforts to improve conditions for the Clear Lake Hitch?

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department) is hosting a virtual, informational public meeting on May 15, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm PDT, to present the technical report Instream Flow Evaluation: Clear Lake Hitch Passage in Tributaries of the Clear Lake Watershed, Lake County. The Clear Lake Hitch (CLH) is a large minnow endemic to Clear Lake and its surrounding tributaries. In 2014, the CLH was listed the California Endangered Species Act as a “threatened” species. In March 2023, Governor Newson signed Executive Order N-5-23, directing the Department to evaluate minimum instream flows to protect CLH.

This effort brings together technical experts and community voices to better understand the Schindler Creek-Clear Lake Keys system, laying the groundwork for thoughtful, lasting solutions. The plans and designs developed here will shape future restoration, guiding implementation, monitoring, and long-term stewardship.
