California State Parks and nonprofit partners are opening new doors for youth and families through a first-of-its-kind pilot program.

Thanks to:
🏕️ Outdoor Outreach, ~200 youth from underserved communities enjoyed free outdoor recreation and educational experiences.
🏄🏾‍♀️ Un Mar de Colores, ~100 participants experienced surfing, environmental education and community events across five state beaches.
🥾 Friends of Santa Cruz County Parks, youth and family members, 94% of who were first-time visitors, explored local state parks through guided hikes.

Los Parques Estatales y organizaciones sin fines de lucro asociadas están brindando nuevas oportunidades para jóvenes y familias a través de un programa piloto nunca antes visto.

Gracias a estas colaboraciones:

🏕️ Outdoor Outreach: Cerca de 200 jóvenes de comunidades con acceso limitado disfrutaron de actividades recreativas al aire libre y experiencias educativas gratuitas.

🏄🏾‍♀️ Un Mar de Colores: Cerca de 100 participantes disfrutaron del surf, la educación ambiental y eventos comunitarios en cinco playas estatales.

🥾 Friends of Santa Cruz County Parks: Jóvenes y familiares exploraron parques estatales locales mediante caminatas guiadas. El 94% de los participantes visitaban estos parques por primera vez.

WATCH: “If we weren’t there, the outcome would not have been in her favor” - Supervising State Park Peace Officers Dylan Ayache and Ryan Gray recount their heroic rescue while off-duty on Friday, Oct. 16, when they came across an overturned car engulfed in flames with the driver still inside near Nicolaus on Highway 70. They acted swiftly, braving the flames and pulling the woman to safety, who was then taken to a local hospital and released later that day.

Thank you to these heroic rangers for their bravery and professionalism!

Great Scott! It’s ... the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to the future (Oct. 21, 2015). If you’d like to take a step back in time, head to Railtown 1897 State Historic Park to check out the famous Sierra Railway No. 3 engine used in the iconic films.

Remember, “your future hasn’t been written yet, so make it a good one!”

Can you spot the shark breaking the water surf 🦈? Over the weekend, Surfline captured a moment a 🦈 near Marina State Beach breached for a quick second.

October is a time of year where sharks migrate to the Central Coast. If surfing or are swimming, make sure you are cautious of your surroundings. If you spot a shark, make sure to report to staff.

Two California State Park Peace Officers (rangers) pulled a woman from a fully engulfed car in Sutter County earlier today! Supervising State Park Peace Officers Ryan Gray and Dylan Ayache risked their lives to rescue a woman while on route to a training after a rollover vehicle accident on Highway 70 in Sutter County.

Watch this video of Supervising Rangers Ryan and Dylan and bystanders who helped with the rescue.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the allied agencies at CHP Yuba-Sutter and Sutter County Fire Department for their quick response and assistance in patient care and transport. Thank you to our Supervising Rangers Ryan and Dylan for their extraordinary heroism and willingness to risk their own safety to save the life. You both are true heroes!
