The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing $4 million in emergency funding to help California fight the spread of the invasive glassy-winged sharpshooter. GWSS Control Efforts Shift North: The Pierce's Disease Control Program is prioritizing GWSS eradication projects in Northern CA as infestations grow & funding remains limited. It ended the Kings County eradication project & urban treatments in Fresno, Madera & Tulare counties, but will continue other GWSS prevention and control work in infested areas. https://bit.ly/GWSS-Control

Ag officials continue working to track down nearly 10,000 grapevines shipped to 40 Northern California counties this spring. Counties have inspected and/or destroyed 2,900 plants & placed more than 2,700 extra GWSS traps. As of 8/25, GWSS has been found on grapevines in 22 counties. More info: https://conta.cc/3S0yDKj

GWSS have been found in Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara & Stanislaus counties. The PD/GWSS Board has set the 2026 winegrape assessment rate at $1.25 per $1,000 of crop value, for the 5th consecutive year. Assessment funds support research & response efforts to protect CA vineyards from pests & diseases.
