I'm running for reelection to the Sacramento City Council, and I want to tell you why.
A long time ago, I learned what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. As a young man, I played for the Oakland Raiders. We won Super Bowl XI together. What I took from that wasn't the ring or the glory. It was the lesson that when people commit to each other and do the work, they win.
I've spent my life trying to live that out. For 25 years, I have had the honor of being the CEO of the Center for Fathers and Families. We serve more than a thousand at-risk kids every single school day. We help parents become better parents. We keep families together. That work taught me that real, lasting change takes patience, persistence, and people who show up.
When I came to the City Council, I brought that same spirit. And together, we've delivered.
Crime is down 19 percent in our District from 2024 to 2025. Our parks have new playgrounds, walking trails, and restrooms that families actually use. We're redesigning streets to protect pedestrians. Sacramento became the first city in California to earn a Pro-Housing designation because we made a choice to lead on housing affordability instead of waiting.
But I'm not running on what we've done. I'm running on what's left to do.
Too many families in our neighborhoods are one setback away from losing their home. We need housing that working families and seniors can actually afford. We need economic development that creates good jobs close to home. And in tight budget years, we need someone at the table who will fight hard to keep our communities safe and make real progress on homelessness.
I've been humbled by the support this campaign has received. Congresswoman Doris Matsui, a majority of the City Council, Sacramento Firefighters Local 522, the Building and Construction Trades, and community leaders from Land Park to the Pocket to South Land Park to Curtis Park. Our coalition is growing every day and I hope you will join us.
