Today, System Administrators delivered a petition to CIO and Vice Provost Viji Murali! Demanding to know why UC Davis is proposing too pay for System Administrators be $35,000 lower than UC Berkeley and $17,000 lower than UC Irvine. This is far out of line with UC’s own regional differentials and will only lead to more problems with retention and recruitment which is already an issue at UC Davis

Rehabilitation specialists at UC Davis Health marched on their boss this week to become the most recent group to speak up about the impact of short-staffing and burnout on patient care and the need for more equitable and fair workplaces.

Other UC rehab workers also picketed outside of UCI Health this month, and at UC San Diego Health they participated in a flyering action outside of the hospital with members of other departments. The University of California has the money to invest in safer staffing, and our patients deserve it!

Today, Over 60 UPTE members along with Teamsters 2010, AFSCME 3299, CIR-SEIU and CNA held and rally and marched over to Labor Relations at UC Davis Medical Center. We demanded a meeting to discuss current parking issues and proposal to increase parking fees. We heard several stories of members coming to work driving around looking for parking for up to 2 1/2 hours. UC agreed to meet with us within the next 2 weeks. Union members spoke, and UC listened! This doesn’t stop here. We will continue to keep the pressure on with Union POWER!

A Call to action!

Our brothers and sisters at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory need our help. They have been stuck in a contract fight for nearly two years and have dealt with increasing recruitment and retention issues that the lab’s management refuses to address at the bargaining table.

This situation has led members to work excessive overtime and experience high levels of stress. It is not safe for you or the community around the lab to have overworked employees performing complex jobs at a nuclear facility.

Lab workers are holding a picket tomorrow. We hope you can make it. Please also help distribute the attached flyer about the picket.

The Lab address is 7000 East Avenue, Livermore.
* Continue EAST on I-580 about 20 miles past Castro Valley, Dublin,
Pleasanton, and most Livermore exits.
* To go to the lab's Westgate Badge Office Parking Lot, take the Vasco
Road exit. Keep to the right at the fork in the exit ramp.
* Travel SOUTH on Vasco Road about 1.5 miles.
* Turn left at Westgate Drive, the fifth traffic light on Vasco Road.
* Take the first right to the lab's Westgate Badge Office, which
is the first building to the right before passing the guarded entrance.
