Are you seeing raised leg scales? Check out those chicken legs. Seeing raised scales could be a sign of Scaly Leg Mites. An infestation is painful and can lead to lameness if left untreated.
1) Clean your chicken’s legs with a bristle brush and a gentle soap, such as Dawn. Not hard, just to help break up the colony and excrement.
2) Make sure to dry them thoroughly and apply petroleum jelly. This suffocates the mites.
3) Clean and disinfect your coop and change their bedding to get rid of any infestation. Heavy infestations may require professional assistance.
4) Inspect your birds daily to reapply petroleum jelly.
5) If no improvement within a few days or your bird worsens (ex. redness, swelling, foul smell), contact your trusted poultry veterinarian.

What are fomites? Anything that can carry germs from a sick bird to your flock. ANYTHING! Your hands, clothes, shoes, feed containers, cages/carriers, and even Fido’s paws. Your dog may be great with your chickens, but the chances that your dog’s paws are getting sanitized are slim to none. That doesn’t mean you should sanitize their paws either. That’s a whole lot of wrong. Just don’t let your dog comingle with your flock. They can be predator-protection unless you have a scared Yorkshire terrier. In that case, they need predator protection too.

We are celebrating with the Emu egg. An adult emu egg is around 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide and 5 inches (13 cm) long. It weighs between 1.2 and 1.5 pounds, which is about the same as ten or twelve large chicken eggs.

The egg tastes similar according to those who have age them. They do have a larger egg yolk to egg white ratio. Check out this video by Food Enthusiast, Emmymade. LinkInBio. Would you try one? Let us know in the comments.

EnlaceEnBio. ¿Probarías uno? Háganos saber en los comentarios.

While raising chickens is normal for some people, ostrich farms are gaining popularity. If you have 2-3 acres of land just hanging around, why not start an ostrich farm? Ostrich farms used to be more popular. While ostrich feathers are still used in dusters, hats with feathers are no longer a daily fashion accessory.

Ostrich farms still sell feathers, leather, meat (low in cholesterol), and eggs. Eggs start at $30 and up, per egg. One egg is the equal to 20–24 standard chicken eggs. People say they taste exactly like chicken eggs but have some cooking complications. The thickness of the shell can complicate making deviled eggs. Visit the link to watch one Pro Chef on her journey cooking ostrich eggs.
