🎥 Kudos to Sacramento Film + Media's very own: Preston Allen, and his project “Unhoused Neighbors”.

Unhoused Neighbors explores the misconceptions and assumptions surrounding homelessness through the firsthand stories of people experiencing it in Sacramento. By giving individuals the opportunity to share their experiences in their own words, in an effort to end the dehumanization and demoralization of a group of individuals who, as Preston puts it, “just need a place to call home”. The film encourages greater understanding, empathy, and a more human perspective on an issue that affects our everyday community.

“Unhoused Neighbors” made its world premiere in July at the 2026 San Antonio Film Festival and was even invited back for a second screening!

The film also made its broadcast premiere on PBS KVIE on August 31st and was covered on PBS KVIE’s Abridged.

👏 It’s been an honor to have Preston as part of our Sacramento Film + Media team as an intern, and even more special to now watch his work come to life. Huge congratulations to Preston and the rest of the “Unhoused Neighbors” team!

Sometimes, the roads that take us the farthest are the ones that bring us home.

Sacramento native Danielle Moné Truitt returned to her hometown to film scenes for her new short film, Mona, a deeply personal love letter to her childhood, 1990s Black culture, and the Sacramento community that shaped her.

Seeing Sacramento represented on screen by someone who grew up here is a powerful reminder that our neighborhoods, our memories, and our stories deserve a place in the spotlight.

We’re proud to see local talent return home to tell stories rooted in where it all began.

We’re proud to celebrate GRUNK THE SMASHER, the latest project from one of the recipients of the second round of our Sacramento Film + Media Grant, awarded in June to support post-production.

This action-packed adventure follows a hammer-wielding barbarian on a mission to rescue a captured dancing girl from a treacherous wizard before a dark ritual unleashes a cosmic horror that could doom the world.

And now, it’s ready to smash its way onto the big screen.

A productive day of planning for California’s film future. 📝

Last Friday, August 21, the FLICS team gathered at the Warner Bros. Discovery Studio Lot for our August board meeting before heading into our annual planning retreat.

We spent the day looking ahead to Legislative Week in Sacramento in March 2027, discussing opportunities to grow film tourism, and exploring new ways to broaden our marketing reach.

There’s a lot ahead for California’s film community, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going.

A big win for Sacramento. A big win for Filipino representation. 🇵🇭

Nurse The Dead, the first Filipino studio series in Hollywood, is coming to Sacramento for a FREE community screening on August 30 at The Sofia.

Created by Filipino-American veteran, writer, producer, and showrunner Mark Labella, the series celebrates the courage, humor, and humanity of frontline healthcare workers, with a special focus on the Filipino nurses who have cared for generations of families.

For Sacramento’s film community, it’s an opportunity to shine a light on the healthcare workers who serve our community every day while celebrating Filipino creativity and representation on screen.

The screening will be followed by a community conversation and Q&A.

Great stories need great places to tell them. 🎬

First, a huge congratulations to the team behind One Battle After Another on taking home the LMGI Award for Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Feature Film! As a movie that was filmed right here in Sacramento, this one hits a little closer to home. Location teams play a huge role in bringing a filmmaker’s vision to life, and it’s exciting to see the work behind Sacramento’s locations recognized on this level.

Last Saturday, we were honored to attend the LMGI Awards alongside fellow film offices and location managers from all around, celebrating the people who help make the places we see on screen possible. And a special congratulations to the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Office on being named Film Commission of the Year! A well-deserved recognition for the work happening across Northern California.

Here’s to celebrating the people behind the scenes and creating more opportunities for productions to find their story. 🎉
