April is National Safe Digging Month! The California Underground Safety Board invites you to promote safe digging practices and raise awareness about underground utility damage prevention all month, every month. The Board has a free foundational training on safe excavation practices for industry associations and groups, business owners, and individuals looking to proactively increase their safety knowledge. CA’s Wildfire Safety Advisory Board is working to support local partnerships between public utilities and public safety personnel. Board Member Tim Haines discusses the board’s efforts to support and strengthen these local partnerships. Board Member Haines’ comments followed a presentation during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting on March 4 in Riverside from Riverside Fire Chief Steve McKinster, Riverside Energy Delivery Assistant Manager Daniel Honeyfield, and Riverside Senior Electrical Engineer Rene Valdez on how partnerships and ongoing communication between the utilities and public safety staff keep communities safe.
