Being prepared starts long before an emergency happens.

As part of National Preparedness Month, we're highlighting the dedication of Red Cross volunteers who regularly train to serve their communities. During a recent full-scale emergency exercise at Sacramento International Airport, volunteers worked alongside local agencies and partners to practice responding to a simulated aircraft emergency.

These exercises help ensure we're ready to provide care, comfort and support when the unexpected happens. Thank you to everyone who participated and shares our commitment to preparedness.

A year ago today, the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire began in Chinese Camp, forever changing lives across this close-knit community.

As we reflect on the past year, we pause to remember those affected and recognize the collective effort that helped neighbors begin to recover. In the days and weeks that followed, community partners, local leaders, volunteers and residents came together with a shared commitment to support one another.

The American Red Cross is deeply grateful for the organizations and individuals who connected families with critical resources, brought community groups together and worked alongside us to provide comfort, support and hope during a difficult time. Their dedication was a powerful reminder that recovery is strongest when a community comes together.

Today, we honor the resilience of those affected and celebrate the people, partnerships and spirit of service that helped Chinese Camp move forward. ❤️

When the started yesterday afternoon in Mariposa County, Red Cross volunteers didn't hesitate to take action.

After learning of the incident, volunteers immediately deployed to the temporary evacuation point to support people affected by the fire.

We celebrate their commitment to help bring hope and support to those who need it most. Thank you to our volunteers for being there for families during difficult times and for representing the Red Cross mission in action.

7:00 p.m. Update: The Temporary Evacuation Point has closed. Thank you to the heroic efforts of firefighters for keeping our community safe.

The Red Cross and our partners have opened a Temporary Evacuation Point for residents displaced by the Colorado Fire.

Temporary Evacuation Point Location: New Life Calvary Chapel Mariposa, 5089 Cole Road, Mariposa, CA 95338.

Alongside Mariposa County Health & Human Services, Red Cross volunteers will help provide safe shelter, water, snacks, emotional support and additional resources to evacuees impacted by the wildfire.

If they have time, evacuating residents are encouraged to bring the following for each member of their family & small pets:
• Prescription & other emergency medication
• Extra clothing
• Pillows & blankets
• Hygiene supplies
• Important documents
• Other comfort items for children & pets

Stay safe with these tips:
• Be ready to evacuate.
• Keep your emergency kit nearby.
• Follow local authorities for evacuation updates Mariposa County Sheriff's Office

Mariposa County Health & Human Services Agency in coordination with The American Red Cross Shelter will open a Temporary Evacuation Point at 3:00 PM and will be located at the New Life Christian Fellowship, 5089 Cole Rd in Bootjack. Please do not wait to evacuate.

⛑️ Meet Lisa, one of our amazing Blood Donor Ambassadors with more than 20 years of experience as a Red Crosser!

As an ambassador, she is the first person blood donors see when they walk through the door. She greets everyone with a smile, assists with check-in, answers questions and ensures the process is a great experience from start to finish.

Her reason why is simple. "I think everybody, when they can, should give back."
