The ability to speak someone's language can turn a simple interaction into a meaningful connection. ๐
Volunteer Homaira recently shared how rewarding it has been to help at River City Food Bank's diaper distributions. Many of the families we serve are Afghan, and by helping with translation, she helps parents feel more comfortable, welcomed, and understood.
"As someone who comes from a similar background, I know how much it means to feel understood and supported," she shared. "Seeing the gratitude on parents' faces reminds me that even small acts of service can make a meaningful difference."
At River City Food Bank, volunteers who speak different languages play an important role in helping us create a welcoming environment where every guest is treated with dignity and respect.
Do you speak a language other than English? We'd love to connect with you. Your language skills could help a neighbor feel seen, heard, and supported.
