The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is issuing an EVACUATION WARNING for residents living in Zone 461 in the Butte Valley area due to a fire burning in the area.

Zone 461- East of, and not including Dry Creek Rd, east to west branch of Lake Oroville. From the intersection of Arden Way and Pentz Rd, to north of the Intersection of Pentz Rd and Messilla Valley Rd.

Yesterday at the Siskiyou Golden Fair in Yreka, it was bittersweet to present a Resolution from the Senate honoring Cliff Munson, who is retiring as the CEO of the 10th District Agricultural Association after running the organization since 2010, overseeing 17 annual fairs and countless other events.

Cliff has also been a strong advocate for the importance of the fairs and fairgrounds in Sacramento. Legislators there need reminders that fairs are not just about rides and funnel cakes — though I do like a funnel cake — but also play critical roles in youth ag education, community building, local economies and emergency safety.

Thank you, Cliff, for your leadership, advocacy and friendship over these years.

And, as it always is, it was a great day at the fair, touring exhibits and catching up with friends.

The failure of the Yuba Water Agency's Colgate Penstock earlier this year has caused immense disruption in Yuba County and beyond, affecting river flows, water delivery and power generation. Bringing state funding to the repair work is a critical investment in the state's water network, supported by agencies around the state.

I am grateful for the partnership of Marisol Ibarra-Bouslama, from California Advocates, who testified in the Assembly Transportation Committee yesterday on behalf of Senate Bill 1064, legislation I am carrying this year to streamline redundant testing of low-use vehicles under the Clean Truck Check program.

The bill passed 15-0! I appreciate the words from the committee chair, Assemblymember Lori Wilson, who recognized both the importance of clean air to Californians and the cost savings associated with this bill. Pursuing a more affordable California means getting rid of regulations that simply drive up the cost of living and doing business, especially when there is no serious benefit.

It is stunning and heartbreaking to see the news of the shooting deaths and injury at the Chico library.

The library is a safe and quiet place for families of all kinds, a place to enjoy storytime or pick up a book for summer reading. We don't know the facts yet, but nothing like this should happen to families anywhere — and certainly not at this place of wholesome joy.

My prayers go out to all who had to suffer this horror.

Police are investigating a report of an active shooter at the Butte County Library on Sherman Avenue in Chico, police dispatchers confirmed.

Last week my deputy district coordinator, Tasha Weaver, met with the fire chiefs and toured facilities at the Williams and Arbuckle-College City fire districts, in Colusa County.

While Williams is building a new fire station with state and federal funding, both of the fire companies — like their fellow independent districts around California — struggle to raise enough local revenue to keep their teams trained, ready, and well-equipped with the most modern equipment to keep both firefighters and the public safe.

Both districts' service areas include the Interstate 5 corridor, which means they stay busy with calls for service involving crashes and other travel-related incidents — a vital service for the public, but not one they are funded to provide.

I appreciate the time the chiefs spent to explain their operations and needs, and I remain committed to exploring ways to help these essential but underfunded public-safety services.
