Public Service Recognition Week Spotlight: Innovation 💡

Meet Jennifer Hagood, our Leisure Services Administrative Coordinator, who has been with the City of Sachse since 2021. Jennifer exemplifies the Core Value of Innovation by consistently identifying inefficiencies and finding smarter ways to get things done, keeping her team free to focus on serving the community.

"Bringing that mindset into local government felt like a natural extension — an opportunity to serve the community on a broader scale and make a direct impact where it matters most," she says.

One of her favorite memories is the opening of the J.K. Sachse Park splash pad. "It was rewarding to see the project come together and even more meaningful to watch the community enjoy a space that so many people contributed to making possible."

And yes, she's also one of Santa's elves at the Christmas Extravaganza every year — because great public servants show up for the fun stuff too.

Public Service Recognition Week Spotlight: Neighborly 🤝

Meet Austin Gumowski, our Superintendent of Aquatics and Playgrounds, who has been with the City of Sachse since 2020.

Austin exemplifies our Core Value of Neighborly, and a recent experience says it all. When a resident reached out about a park light shining into her backyard, Austin went out that same day to adjust it. Then he came back that night to make sure it had been corrected. The resident said it felt like she was being treated like a neighbor, not just a ticket in a queue.

For Austin, public service has always been personal. "When I was growing up, I spent most of my free time at parks and facilities making lifelong memories," he says. "It's a privilege to be able to create the same opportunities for the people we serve in our community."

One of his most meaningful experiences has been being part of the playground installations at Heritage and J.K. Sachse parks. "It's very rewarding when you get to see how much the community uses and enjoys these spaces we have created."

Thank you, Austin, for making Sachse feel like home for everyone who walks through our parks.
