U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston strengthening our partnerships with local government agencies. We value the strong relationships we have made with our local partners including Texas Parks and Wildlife, Orange and Jefferson County Sheriffs, as well as many others. These agencies serve as a “force multiplier” by adding additional capabilities and enforcement options throughout the Station Sabine area of responsibility.

SHG welcomed 20 guests from local police and fire departments for a command center tour as part NASBLAs BOAT course. The visit helped strengthen partnerships and prepare all of us for an all-hazards response team!

Congrats to MK2 Konor Mercer on his advancement to Machinery Technician First Class. MK1 is departing the unit and heading to Station Rio Vista to serve as the unit’s Engineering Petty Officer. In his departing remarks, Konor encouraged the crew to make the most of every assignment and to always be striving for advancement. Good advice from a great shipmate! Good luck in California.

The leading cause of boating accidents? Not following the rules of the road. Designate a lookout. Maintain a safe speed. Pass other vessels as a safe distance. Most importantly, pay attention at all times!

05/24/2022

National Safe Boating Week continues! Take a boating safety course, have a Coast Guard Auxiliary courtesy safety check conducted on your vessel, and remember to file a float plan with a trusted friend. Also, know the weather forecast before and during your trip.
