Check out the latest from the City of Sabetha Commission Meeting that was held on September 7, 2026:

The following motions were approved and passed 5-0:
※ minutes from the August 3rd regular meeting
※ John Tijerina as volunteer firefighter
※ burn dates set for 9/25 thru 11/20/2026
※ public hearing date of Oct. 5th for Triple C
※ Resolution 2026-21 authorizing filing KDHE SRF Loan application
※ Resolution 2026-22 raise of $2/hr for Dustin Gruber passing the Wastewater IV classification
※ Resolution 2026-23 raise of $2/hr for Shane Dillon passing the Wastewater IV classification
※ approved the administrative services agreement with Ranson Financial regarding the KDHE Project No. C20-3199-01 Wastewater Plant renovation

CITY ADMINISTRATOR INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES:
All projects are subject to change in scheduling due to weather or other factors out of our control:

1. Sidewalk replacements to begin in late October
2. Street repairs from the water line replacement on S. 11th are set to continue next week
3. Timberlane mill and overly project is set to begin tentatively on Sept. 21st
4. Street painting is ongoing
5. Oregon Street sealing project is scheduled to begin Sept. 28th
6. Roof replacement on the covered bridge is set for late October
7. Field 4 press box has been demolished and cleaned up

PROJECT UPDATES:
1. Kathy Sexton with WSU will visit Sabetha Nov. 2nd and 3rd
2. The new City of Sabetha website is live --check it out!!
3. City Administrator will attend the KS. League of Municipalities on October 8th - 10th
4. We plan to celebrate our City employees with an appreciation lunch in October.
5. We have implemented electronic timekeeping within the City

We’re excited about the work happening around Sabetha! 🌳🌸

You may have seen us out last week working with Grimm's Gardens on some additional beautification projects for our community. This particular project is taking place along Main Street heading East, where we’re looking at ways to add more color, character, and curb appeal to the area.

The second picture is AI-created imagery, but it helps paint the picture of what we’re working toward—beautiful crabapple trees and other colorful plantings lining our streets and welcoming people into Sabetha. 🌸🌳

And this is just the beginning! We’re excited about the projects we have planned before the end of 2026, including:

🛣️ Street improvements
🚶 Sidewalk improvements
💧 Finishing the 11th Street water line replacement
🌳 Additional beautification projects

We’re proud to continue investing in Sabetha and making our community a place we can all be proud of. More to come! 🇺🇸

We are receiving some calls about black smoke coming from the Sabetha downtown area. It is nothing to be concerned with--it is the power plant generating. Thanks for your concern!

Today and tomorrow, August 10th and 11th, these young gentlemen will be soliciting door-to-door looking for new customers for the Watson Pest Control Co. They have been vetted by the police deparment and have paid for their licenses.

Mark your calendars for August 29th, 11am-2 pm. The Fire Department will be hosting an open house/fund raiser for the proposed new station. From Fire Chief Gary Elliott, " We are in the process of raising money for a new fire station, as we have outgrown the current 1970's building. We need more space for housing all of our current equipment, and we also will be trying to acquire a new 4000 gallon tanker at some point. We are applying for grants to make this happen, so as not to be a tax burden on the community. On behalf of the Sabetha Fire Department, thank you for your continued support!" We hope to see you on the 29th for a free will donation meal, open trucks for the kids, and renderings of the new station

These pictures are a followup on last night's joint training between Sabetha EMS and Sabetha Fire Department. Sabetha is proud of the way our departments serve and complement each other in emergency situations. This quote is from Bobbi Dillon, Director of EMS, "The best time to identify challenges is during training, not during someone's emergency. That's why we continue to learn, improve, and prepare together for the people who count on us every day."
