Today, East Tennessee — and the world — mourns the loss of one of our own. 🦋
Dolly Parton may have been known around the world for her music, talent, and unmistakable personality, but here in East Tennessee, she meant something even more. She was a neighbor. Born and raised just a few counties from our home in Bean Station, Dolly never forgot the mountains, communities, and people who helped shape her.
For all that she accomplished, perhaps one of Dolly's greatest legacies will be the way she cared for others. Whether it was putting books into the hands of children through the Imagination Library, helping families affected by the devastating East Tennessee wildfires, supporting medical research, or quietly stepping forward when people needed help, she showed throughout her life what it means to give back.
That spirit of service is something especially meaningful to those of us in the fire service. We may serve in a very different way, but the principle is the same: take care of your neighbors, help when someone is hurting, and leave your community better than you found it.
Dolly never had to do the things she did for East Tennessee. She did them because these mountains were home, these communities were her communities, and caring for people was simply part of who she was.
From all of us at Bean Station Fire & Rescue, we extend our deepest condolences to Dolly's family, friends, and the countless people whose lives she touched.
East Tennessee has lost an icon, but the kindness, generosity, and love she poured back into these mountains will live on for generations.
Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for never forgetting where you came from — and for showing the world just how big an East Tennessee heart can be. 🦋
