Celebrating 60 Years of Combined Service: Happy Retirement!

While we spent the months of April and May celebrating their incredible careers, June 1st marked the official retirement date for two dedicated pillars of our agency and community. Please join us in congratulating Major Andy Greenway and Corporal Mike Messer!

Both of these exceptional public servants have officially stepped into retirement, each marking an incredible milestone of 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Rutherford County.

🔹 Major Andy Greenway
For three decades, Major Greenway has led with integrity, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to the safety of our county. His leadership, mentorship, and vision within the command staff have left an indelible mark on this agency that will be felt for generations to come. Thank you, Major, for your unwavering guidance and dedication.

🔹 Corporal Mike Messer
Corporal Messer has spent the last 30 years as a dependable, familiar, and protective presence in our community. Whether on patrol or answering the call in times of crisis, his work ethic and heart for service have exemplified what it means to wear the badge. Thank you, Corporal, for your decades of frontline dedication.

🌟 Thank You for Your Service!
To give 30 years to a career in law enforcement is a monumental achievement. It requires sacrifice, resilience, and a deep love for one's community. While it was wonderful to honor them at their respective celebrations over the last couple of months, seeing them officially turn the page on June 1st is truly a milestone.

"The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example."

From Sheriff Ellenburg and the entire staff at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office: Thank you both for your exemplary service, your sacrifices, and your dedication. We wish you both a long, happy, and healthy retirement. You’ve earned it!

What an incredible start to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office's STAR Camp 2026! Day one was packed with energy, excitement, and community spirit, setting a fantastic tone for the rest of our first week.
The morning at R-S Middle School was all about teamwork and friendly competition. Campers, counselors, and our dedicated School Resource Officers (SROs) hit the field for some lively games. It was great to see everyone laughing, running, and building new friendships through active play.

Fueling the Adventure

After working up an appetite, campers enjoyed a delicious lunch courtesy of J’s. A huge thank you to them for keeping our adventurers fueled and ready for the day's events!

Community and Learning in Action

The afternoon took us on an educational and exciting journey with tours and demonstrations at the Forest City Police Department and Forest City Fire Rescue. Campers got an up-close look at the vital work these departments do to keep our community safe. We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of both departments for their time, dedication, and engaging presentations.

To wrap up the day, we headed to Legacy Soccer Park for more outdoor fun and nothing beats cooling down after a busy day of activities with refreshing Icees from Kona Ice of Blue Ridge Foothills. Another big thank you to Kona Ice for the perfect sweet treat!
