RUSTBURG, VA - The Campbell County Department of Community Development is inviting residents, business owners, and stakeholders to help shape the future of Campbell County by participating in the County's Comprehensive Plan update.

As required by the Code of Virginia § 15.2-2223, localities are required to review their Comprehensive Plans at least once every five years. Campbell County's Comprehensive Plan serves as a long-range guide for growth, development, infrastructure investments, public services, and land use decisions. While updated every five years, the plan helps establish a vision for the community over the next 25 years.

As part of the update process, the Department of Community Development has launched a public survey themed "Tradition Meets Tomorrow," reflecting the County's commitment to preserving the values and character that make Campbell County unique while planning for future opportunities and growth.

To***co Commission Awards Four Campbell County Organizations with Grants Totaling $1M

Rustburg, VA: Several Campbell County non-profits, the Town of Brookneal and Campbell County are set to receive more than $1 million dollars in grant funding from the Virginia To***co Region Revitalization Commission (TRRC) following the Southern Virginia Committee’s meeting on May 12.

The grant awards span three investment categories: agribusiness, business development and tourism. The awards reflect Campbell County’s ongoing commitment to growing its economy, strengthening its agricultural sector and supporting community assets.

“These investments reflect our ongoing belief that the strongest economic development work happens when local government and community organizations work side by side,” Nina Rezai, Campbell County Economic Development Director, said. “These grant awards will create tangible opportunity for Campbell County residents and business owners.”

Information about each project award is listed below. For more detailed information, read TRRC’s press release at https://revitalizeva.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Spring-2026-TRRC-Awards-2.0.pdf.

Campbell County will receive $3,583 to launch a pilot series of six workshops designed to build practical business skills for local farm operators. Sessions will cover branding, financial analysis, compliance and records management and business planning. An estimated 25 agriculture-based businesses from six counties are expected to benefit from this workshop series. Agriculture producers will walk away from these sessions with tangible takeaways including professional photos, a functional records management system, a business plan template and a draft logo and style guide. The program is slated to roll out in the fall of 2026.

Campbell County Training School Complex

The Campbell County Training School Complex (CCTSC) will receive $400,000 for a grounds and parking lot renovations project that will assist in converting the historic campus into a vibrant, multi-purpose economic development asset. The complex currently includes four buildings constructed around 1022-1923 and is a well-preserved example of one of the original sixteen Rosenwald schools in Virginia. The grant award will be used to construct new parking facilities and enhance campus grounds by adding LED lighting, drainage and stormwater infrastructure, ADA compliance walkways and ramps, directional signage and landscaping. 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐆, 𝐕𝐀 - On April 13, the SBA announced that a new part of Campbell County would be included in the Historically Underutilized Business Zone program through a Governor’s designation. Census Tract 209 was nominated during the final months of the Youngkin Administration. This process is reserved for Governors to include Census Tracts that meet the criteria of the program but were not automatically included during the Census evaluation in 2024. The Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) program, run by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), helps small businesses in these designated areas gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities.
