Josh Edgin from Russellville School District spoke to Lions this week. He is the CTE educator. Career Technical Education starts with fifth graders. Josh’s job is to expose these children to what jobs are available in Russellville. He states we are trying to keep them here instead of educating them to go off somewhere else to work. Just this week he took two groups to two different plants in Russellville to show them all the different jobs that are required to keep the place running. Josh said that when they leave he asks them how many different types of jobs they saw. He also is in charge of the high school kids getting community service. Josh said that he keeps up with the hours the kids volunteer and then he also puts a dollar amount to those hours to show them their dollar value to a community.

Tiffany Horton from Dardanelle Regional came to talk to Lions about Dementia Support Groups. She talked about how hard it is for the caregivers dealing with the changes of their spouse. Often times there is a great deal of isolation due to they are no longer able to attend things like church or maybe a garden club. That is why she feels the support group is so important. They can give them resources to get a sitter for a few hours a week or even help them in getting a loved one into a nursing home. The meetings are first Tuesday of the month at Dardanelle Community Center 5:00 - 6:00 pm and Second Tuesday at Pope County Senior Center 1:00 - 2:00 pm. For information call Tiffany Horton at 501-730-1610 all meetings are free.
Also Josh Sierra and Brandon Ratcliff stopped by to tell us about The Arbors Freedom Fest in June. They will come another time to tell us about living at the Arbors.

Adam Xaysuda from Maumel Lions spoke about Cubs Club. They are children 12 and under who meet once a month and work on projects. Some examples are paintings rocks for a park and get well cards for their mayor who was in cancer treatments. The parents come with them and participate. The Maumel Lions work with them and let them help them with things like roadside pickup. All this is to teach children(and parents) about volunteering.
Heather Garner (Adam’s sister in law) has started a new project called Prodigal Heroes which is to help front line people such as First Responders, Veterans, Fireman, prisoners after prison etc. often when these people are no longer doing their jobs they are at a loss of what to do because they have had such regimented lives it is hard to think for themselves. Some suffer from post traumatic depression and don’t want to talk about it because they believe they just need to tough it out!! One of there big projects is to be able to have housing till they can get back on their feet. Their motto is Grace and Grit.
