After more than a decade of dedicated leadership, Dr. Janell Logue-Belden has announced her retirement as Superintendent of the Deer Lakes School District, effective August 17, 2026. Dr. Logue-Belden, who has led the district since November 2014, leaves behind a legacy of prioritizing school safety, academic innovation, modernized facilities, and fiscal stability.
Safety Comes First
The safety, security, and wellbeing of every student have always been Dr. Logue-Belden’s top priority. Safety initiatives launched in the District have secured a West Deer Township police officer in every school building, being the second District Allegheny County to utilize BusPatrol, programming to enhance the wellbeing of students, and countless strategic and evidence-based improvements to ensure our schools are safe and secure.
A Legacy of Academic Excellence
Under Dr. Logue-Belden’s leadership, Deer Lakes has undergone a significant academic evolution. Her tenure saw the expansion of STEM programming inclusion as a Google Reference District, AASA Learning 2026, and the successful implementation of the 1:1 digital literacy initiative, ensuring every student has the tools necessary for 21st-century success.
An unwavering and relentless commitment to academic excellence has resulted in greater diversity of academic opportunities, like the tripling of AP course offerings. As programming has expanded, so too has academic performance.
Facility and Athletic Upgrades
Recognizing that a premier education requires the best environments to learn, Dr. Logue-Belden oversaw several major facility enhancements. Highlights of her tenure include:
•Modernized Learning Spaces: Strategic upgrades to classroom technology and building infrastructure have taken place across each school campus to facilitate cutting edge learning experiences in spaces designed to facilitate communication, collaboration, and creativity.
•Athletic Excellence: Significant improvements to district fields and athletic facilities have provided student-athletes with competitive, safe, and state-of-the-art environments.
•Fine Arts Brilliance: Substantial developments to the district auditorium have enhanced student performance with greater lighting and higher quality sound systems.
Fiscal Responsibility
Dr. Logue-Belden’s administration has been defined by a commitment to the taxpayers of the Deer Lakes community.
Through meticulous budgetary management and the aggressive pursuit of grant funding, the district has maintained a strong financial position while simultaneously expanding programs, upgrading facilities, and making school campuses safer.
Over 12 years, taxes have increased only two times, a nearly unheard of and nearly impossible feat in public education while maintaining a strong fiscal outlook.
A Seamless Transition
To ensure the district’s continued momentum, Dr. Logue-Belden will spend her final months working closely with her successor. This transition period is designed to provide a stable handoff of leadership, ensuring that the district’s strategic goals remain on track through the 2026-2027 school year and beyond.
"It has been the greatest honor of my professional career to serve the students, staff, and families of Deer Lakes," Dr. Logue-Belden said. "I am incredibly proud of what we have built together over the last twelve years, and I am confident that the district is positioned for even greater heights in the future."
The Board of School Directors expresses its deepest gratitude to Dr. Logue-Belden for her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the Deer Lakes school community.
