Oh, you know, just a typical Saturday at the Russell Springs City Park. Mayor Eddie Thomas said the park and the tremendous amount of support shown for it "is truly a blessing." With increased use and interest shown, "the community spoke, and we listened," Mayor Thomas said. Starting Monday, June 15, the popular splash pad will now be open until 6 p.m. (Rentals are available from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) For pool hours and information, visit the Joseph Smith Hayes Memorial Pool page or call (270) 866-6402. With a city which serves beyond its boundaries, Mayor Eddie Thomas was honored to travel to the Wolf Creek Dam this morning to present an Anchor Award to Rick Napier, of Big Daddy's Eats & Treats. Anchor Awards are given to those who serve the city or community in exemplary fashion, and Thomas said Napier's eatery, adjacent to Kendall Park and the Wolf Creek Fish Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, draws people in from near and far. Big Daddy's Eats & Treats has become one of the most popular stops during tourist season. Russell County Judge Executive Randy Marcum also presented Napier with a Kentucky Colonel commission, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
