We are excited to see everyone tomorrow for our next SUN Meals To-Go distribution at Russell County High School (enter at Erik Lane).

โฐ PLEASE NOTE: Service will NOT begin until 10:00 a.m. sharp.
Meals will not be distributed one minute before 10:00 a.m., and we ask that families remain in line until that time. This ensures fairness, safety, and proper program compliance for all participants.

๐Ÿ•™ Time: 10:00 a.m. โ€“ 12:30 p.m. (or until meals are gone)

๐Ÿš— Important Traffic & Line-Up Update:
Lining up will follow the same pattern as last week. Please follow staff directions when you arrive to help keep traffic moving safely and smoothly.

๐Ÿšซ Important Distribution Reminder:
No distribution of meals will take place from the parking lot or to individuals walking up. All participants must remain in their vehicle and be in the designated vehicle line in order to receive meals. This is required for safety, traffic control, and program compliance.

๐Ÿ‘‰ This weekโ€™s loading order will be different:
Meals will be loaded first, followed by milk.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Parent/Guardian Pick-Up Reminder:
Parents or guardians may pick up meals for their eligible children.

In the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a guardian is defined as an adult who has a direct caregiving relationship with a child, meaning they are responsible for that childโ€™s care.

This definition helps ensure meals are provided only to eligible children while protecting program integrity and funds.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us make tomorrowโ€™s distribution safe and efficient for all families.

SUN Meals FAQ ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฅ›

Weโ€™ve received several questions about this yearโ€™s SUN Meals program, so we wanted to answer some of the most common ones.

1. Why is there only one pickup location this year?
Over the past couple of years, we received a lot of feedback that families did not like the shelf-stable milk. We listened! This year, weโ€™re excited to offer fresh milk instead.

To make that possible, Prairie Farms is providing a refrigerated milk truck to keep the milk cold until pickup. They were only able to provide one truck, which means we can only operate from one location. Our school kitchen coolers are not large enough to store that quantity of fresh milk.

We also chose one location because of staffing. School Nutrition employees are not contracted to work during the summer, so only those who choose to work are available for our summer program. We simply do not have enough staff available to safely operate multiple distribution sites.

2. If Iโ€™m in line before 10:00 a.m. and everything is set up, why canโ€™t I receive my meals early?
Our Summer Food Service Program application requires us to serve meals only between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. We are not permitted to serve even one minute before or one minute after those approved times.

3. Why did the line take so long this week?
We expect the process to move much faster in the coming weeks. Many families arrived without being registered or without their car tag, so we had to register them on-site before they could receive meals. We appreciate everyoneโ€™s patience as we worked to serve every eligible child.

4. What if I canโ€™t pick up meals during the scheduled time?
If someone else is caring for your child on pickup day (such as a babysitter or family member), they may pick up the meals. They must have the childโ€™s car tag to do so.

5. Can you hold my meals until later in the day?
Unfortunately, no. Program regulations do not allow us to save meals for later pickup.

6. Can I walk up to receive my meals?
No. For the safety of everyone involved, all meal pickups must take place through the drive-thru line. Please remain in your vehicle while staff load your meals.

7. What if I donโ€™t want all of the milk?
Federal program guidelines require that all meal components, including milk, be distributed together. If you choose not to keep the milk, youโ€™re welcome to give it to someone else after leaving the distribution site.

8. What happens if you run out of meals before I arrive?
We work very hard to estimate how many meals to prepare, but itโ€™s challenging because food must be ordered a week in advance. Even with registration, attendance varies due to vacations and other summer activities. Our staff spends two full days preparing meal kits, and we are not able to assemble additional meals on pickup day if supplies run out.

9. Why was the high school selected as the pickup location?
The high school is centrally located within the district and provides the largest space to safely accommodate the amount of traffic we expect.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we work to provide nutritious meals to our communityโ€™s children this summer. We appreciate everyone who participates and look forward to serving you each week!

WOW! What an incredible first day of SUN Meals To-Go! ๐ŸŽ‰

Today, we served **14,154 meals** to children across our community. We are overwhelmed by the community's response and grateful for the opportunity to help feed so many children this summer.

We sincerely apologize to those who were unable to receive meals today. The demand exceeded our expectations, and we are already making plans to prepare additional meals for next week's pickup.

Please remember that this is a **free program** designed to help feed children in our community. Planning for and distributing such a large number of meals is a tremendous undertaking, and we are working hard to serve as many families as possible.

Today was our very first pickup day of the summer, and while we understand there were delays, we appreciate your patience and understanding. We expect the process to become much smoother and more efficient in the coming weeks as staff, volunteers, and families become familiar with the routine.

Thank you for your support, patience, and kindness as we continue working to make this program a success for our community. We look forward to serving you again next week!
