Starting the week of April 26th, Rushville City Utilities will begin flushing fire hydrants across town. This routine maintenance is essential for keeping our water system in top shape.
Hydrant flushing helps:
- Clear out sediment from water mains
- Ensure hydrants are working properly for emergency use

City officials understand the following change will not be popular and recognize that residents may be frustrated. Regardless of property tax changes, the cost of providing important services continues to rise.

City residents have paid $15 per month for weekly trash service since 2020. During that time, expenses for fuel, labor, equipment, and disposal have increased significantly. For several years, the City offset these rising costs by using General Fund dollars to keep rates stable. However, budget impacts from Senate Enrolled Act 1 have reduced available revenues and limited the City’s ability to continue absorbing these expenses without affecting other essential services.

After reviewing the true cost of service and the overall budget, the City Council approved an adjustment to better align the rate with actual expenses. The new monthly trash rate of $20 will take effect beginning with the February 2026 billing cycle.

This decision was not made lightly. It is intended to ensure the long-term sustainability of the trash program while maintaining responsible financial management.

Over the next few days, temperatures are expected to drop significantly. Take steps to protect your home and prevent water lines from freezing.
Tips to Prepare:
• Keep a slow drip running from faucets, especially those on exterior walls.
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.
• Ensure outdoor hoses are disconnected, and cover outdoor spigots.
• Seal any drafts around doors and windows near pipes.

Rushville City Utilities did not conduct service shutoffs for non-payment during November due to the Thanksgiving holiday. December shutoffs would also fall during the Christmas holiday, while the utility offices are closed December 24th and 25th.

As a result, shutoffs for non-payment have been extended to December 29th. Customers are encouraged to contact the Utility Office at 765-932-4124 to make payment arrangements to avoid any interruption of service.

The City of Rushville Utilities Department is now offering DOXO as an additional way to pay your utility bill.

💳 Important details about DOXO payments:

•✅ Payments made using your bank account and routing number are FREE.

•💲 Payments made with a credit or debit card will include a $3.99 fee or 3% (whichever is greater).

•⏳ Please note: DOXO is not a quick payment option, please continue to come into our office or contact us for those payments. Processing can take up to 5 business days using DOXO, so be sure to plan ahead when making your payment.
