The main entrance of the Rushville Police Department is under construction as we have new concrete poured to create the groundwork for a future law enforcement memorial. An updated, safer walkway is the first step in this process.

Due to the construction, the main entrance of the building is out of service from Monday May 11, 2026 to Friday May 15, 2026. Anyone who needs to conduct business at the Rushville Police Department is encouraged to call first at (765)932-3907. If a personal visit is necessary, further instructions can be provided on how to access the property during your call. We are also always more than happy to come to you. As always, in an emergency, dial 911.

Members of the Rushville Police Department and the Rush County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a critical incident (Officer-Involved Shooting) resulting from a call for service on Friday April 10, 2026, at approximately 5:00PM. Per Rushville Police Department policy, the independent investigation of this matter has been delegated to the Indiana State Police - Pendleton Post. I have the utmost confidence in their ability to conduct a thorough investigation in this matter. Our thoughts, prayers and efforts from this point forward will be directed toward our law enforcement officers, communications officers and the victims in this case. As this is an active investigation, no further comment will be made. Any inquiries will be deferred to the Indiana State Police.

Additionally, we appreciate the support and concern that has been expressed for the well-being of the officers involved. We are blessed to be in a place with such a strong sense of community.

The Beech Grove Police Department is in our thoughts and prayers. 🖤💙🖤

A message from Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice:

"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today we lost one of our very own, Officer Brian Elliott. Officer Elliott, along with two other Beech Grove Police Department officers, was dispatched at 6:08 p.m. to the 100 block of Diplomat Court for a disturbance. After they arrived, Officer Elliott and another officer were shot. Both officers were rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but despite the best lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Officer Elliott succumbed to his injuries. The other officer, who we are not naming at this time, is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive.

My heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. At this time, I am asking that we lean on one another to get through this.

We are grateful to the team at Eskenazi Hospital, and our law enforcement and community partners for their extraordinary response and support."
