Today, the City of Runaway Bay celebrated the opening of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge, restoring this important connection for our community and honoring those who have served our nation.
Local veterans had the honor of cutting the ribbon, officially dedicating this bridge to the veterans of Runaway Bay - past, present, and future. Their service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country will forever be remembered as part of this landmark.
As our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of Americaโs founding, this dedication serves as a reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured and protected by generations of brave men and women who answered the call to serve.
This project would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of so many. We extend our sincere thanks to Wise County Commissioner Colby Shawn, the Greater Runaway Bay Alliance (GRBA) for assisting with todayโs ceremony, our Mayor and City Council, the engineers and professionals who helped bring this project from vision to reality, the crews who worked tirelessly to complete the bridge, and the many residents who supported this effort along the way.
What began as a washout has become something much greater: a symbol of resilience, partnership, and gratitude.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible.
Welcome to Veterans Memorial Bridge.
Dedicated in 2026 in honor of the men and women who have defended our freedoms. Remembering those who served and celebrating 250 years of the American spirit. ๐บ๐ธ๐๏ธ
