The Rumford Police Department has recently experienced an increase in juvenile-related complaints and incidents in certain areas of town, particularly in and around the Strathglass Park neighborhood (commonly known locally as “Brick Park”) and adjoining portions of Hancock Street, Waldo Street, and Cumberland Street. We want residents to know that these issues are being taken seriously and are receiving ongoing attention from our officers.

During the past week alone, Rumford Police officers have responded to numerous complaints involving juveniles in these areas. As a result of these incidents and ongoing investigations, enforcement action has been taken in multiple cases, additional juvenile charges are pending, and potential criminal charges involving adults are also being reviewed where appropriate.

While Maine law strictly limits the information that can be publicly released regarding juvenile matters, residents should know that these incidents are not being ignored or minimized. Officers are conducting directed patrols, responding to complaints, conducting follow-up investigations, and taking proactive enforcement measures aimed at preventing situations from escalating further.

We also want to emphasize the important role that parents and guardians play in helping prevent these issues. Knowing where children are, who they are spending time with, and setting clear expectations regarding behavior—particularly during evening hours—can make a meaningful difference. Respect for others, personal accountability, and appropriate supervision remain important parts of maintaining a safe and respectful community.

We encourage residents to continue promptly reporting suspicious or criminal activity so officers can respond appropriately and effectively. If an immediate police response is needed, please call 911. For non-emergency concerns, contact Oxford County Regional Communications at (207) 364-4551.

The Rumford Police Department appreciates the community’s continued cooperation and patience as we work to address these concerns and maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Bradlee Gallant of the Rumford Police Department, who was presented last evening with the Maine Chiefs of Police Association Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement Award.

This prestigious statewide award recognizes individuals whose dedication, service, and accomplishments bring distinction to their department, community, and the law enforcement profession.

Sgt. Gallant was recognized for his extraordinary leadership and commitment to both officer wellness and public safety. Through his efforts, critical grant funding has been secured to support first responder wellness initiatives, specialized training opportunities, traffic safety programs, and regional public safety improvements that have positively impacted not only the Rumford Police Department, but communities throughout the region.

As a Patrol Sergeant, Shift Commander, and Union President, Sgt. Gallant’s passion for taking care of first responders — so they can better care for the communities they serve — has made a lasting difference.

We are incredibly proud of Sgt. Gallant and grateful for his dedication to our department, our profession, and the citizens we serve.

Congratulations, Sgt. Gallant — this recognition is well deserved!

Just yesterday, we shared that this week marks National Police Week — a time of solemn remembrance and recognition for the men and women who serve their communities with courage, professionalism, and integrity. It is a reminder that behind every badge is a person, a family, and a commitment to service that often comes with great sacrifice.

Today, with heavy hearts, we learned of the tragic loss of Maine Warden Service Pilot Joshua Tibbetts.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Maine Warden Service, his family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.

During a week dedicated to honoring those who serve and remembering those we have lost, this tragedy hits especially close to home here in Maine.

Please keep Warden Pilot Tibbetts’ loved ones and the entire Maine Warden Service family in your thoughts and prayers.

Rumford PD will be increasing patrols as we participate in NHTSA’s Click It or Ticket High Visibility Enforcement Campaign. This is done in partnership with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. So far in 2026 there have been 23 motor vehicle occupant fatalities. Of those, 13 (57%) were unbelted. Remember, Click It or Ticket is not just a slogan; it is a life-saving reminder.

This week is National Police Week. During National Police Week, we join communities across the country in honoring the law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty and recognizing those who continue to serve with dedication and professionalism each day.

This week is first and foremost a time of remembrance — a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by officers and the families who stand beside them.

We are also grateful for the continued support of our community. Public safety is not accomplished by law enforcement alone; it depends on strong partnerships, trust, compassion, and a shared commitment to looking out for one another.

To the officers serving today, the families supporting them, and the community members who continue to stand with us — thank you.

And to the fallen, we remember and honor your sacrifice.
