100 special interest people shouldn’t get to decide for the 6000 in our town

Don’t give up. This is deja vu all over again by wannabe big timers flexing with your hard earned money.

Welp, 75 people decided to spend $5.4m and the other 5300 residents didn’t get a say. Sounds about right.

Whoever gave the new fire station people information failed to mention the history of this debate. We spent a ton of money a few decades to reinforce the floors after us citizens defeated the town’s scare tactics and presented them with an overwhelming amount of signatures rejecting the new fire station idea. Furthermore, this rehashed scare tactic is if irrelevant because we will give you the $30k to expand the building across the street to house the other truck in.

Lastly, how many times can the town fool the taxpayers before they figure it out? Every time it’s oh don’t worry the state and federal government is giving us all this money. Every time it’s a lie. Just look no further to your downtown big dig. Oh that was going to cost nothing. In the end the taxpayer footed the bill to the tune of over $8 million. Think that’s just a number and no one really pays for it? Wrong- look how our taxes have skyrocketed over the past several years. What a joke. Please don’t fall for this latest scam. And simply put- that’s exactly what it is.

⚠️NEW STATION UPDATES⚠️

Mark Your Calendar’s:

December 29, 2021; 5:30PM via ZOOM: The LAST PUBLIC workshop to discuss the plans for the new station.

January 6, 2022; 6:00PM via ZOOM (normal selectmen’s meeting): The warrant will voted on approved/denied for the new station.

January 20, 2022; 5:30PM in the auditorium (prior to the selectmen’s meeting): Will be a PUBLIC hearing for the new station.

JANUARY 25, 2022; 6:00PM (location will be announced when we receive confirmation): Will be the special town meeting to vote on moving forward with the new station.

PLEASE note that all 4 of the dates listed above ARE open to the PUBLIC! All comments, questions, or concerns good OR bad are encouraged. We’re happy to clarify, explain, or provide a tour of the current station to show why a new one is in fact necessary. We’ve had MANY PUBLIC forums leading up to this point and unfortunately only 1 or 2 citizens show up. Our current station is almost 100 years old and we’re hoping to build this new one to last another 100 years! I know some have commented that the new station plan is “too big” however after measuring our current 3 floor station & the ladder building it’s only 500 square feet smaller than the new station plan. With apparatus only getting bigger and the equipment needed to provide the best services to our community we’re out growing this station.

We appreciate those who are in support of the member's and the new station and as previously stated we encourage ALL to attend the above meetings to get the CORRECT details needed to make an informed vote! 🚒

We must save our beautiful historic fire station on the island. We just were fooled into spending $12 million for new roads downtown. Now they want to abandon the pillar of the downtown and spend another $7 million to locate it in a quiet neighborhood. We don’t need another fire station. They use typical fear tactics- that the floor can’t handle the weight. Well, we gave them hundreds of thousands to reinforce the floors a few decades ago. There is already another firehouse across the street. We can just expand that one to fit another truck. Problem solved and the big s**t big spenders defeated once again!
